what engines have vtec?

A car is for sale, and all that it says about the car is that the engine has VTEC?

It is a 4th gen civic hb, and it says V-TEC engine.

What engines have vtec, and what HP can I expect the lowest?

Do the stock 105 or so hp like my motor that I have, do those come with vtec? Or am I looking at like 127hp or so for vtec?

thanks.

loudsubz, if it's a 4th Gen with VTEC, it's gotta be a swap, or the guy's full of it.

The first Civic VTEC engine was the D16 in the 5th gen (92-95) Civic Si. The D15 (102hp) you and I have is not VTEC and the D15 in the 4th gen (88-91) had 92 hp and isn't VTEC either.

hmm, i didn't know my old Si motor had 92, i thought it was 108 or something. as for vtec engine
what stew said is right, the D16 has, forogt the whole extension for it, something like D16y8 or something
if he has a swap and its vtec, most likely a ZC, i think that has vtec, it should, and a b16, common swaps in a 4th gen.

There are no 4th gens with VTEC unless it was swapped to a 5th Gen or higher engine..alot of people are sticker happy..ask to take a look at the bloack of the engine and get the engine code off of it and see what it is and we cn let you know if it is VTEC..I have a 4th Gen with a VTEC engine courtesy of KSR!
D16A6 = 4th gen Si motor non-VTEC
D16Z6 = 5th Gen Si motor with VTEC

just look for the VTEC cylinoid it is usually by the distributor it is a small metal cylinder attached to the engine.
