IT DOESNT MATTER AS LONG AS THE CAR GETS RUSTPROOFED.

so which way is right?
From what I hear, washing it above zero degree is safe and a good idea. Salt excels corrosion when it is above 0 degrees (correct me if Im wrong). So washing it gets the salt off b4 it messes up your car.

Krown does a wash on your car right after they undercoat it. So was wouldnt harm your car aslong as the temperature is right.

By the way, this is an aside question.

I have a stock header on my civic right now and I wana install the performance header which is sittin in my garage. My car I believe has a 2.0/2.25 inch drop so its pretty low. I was wondering if any one has any ideas on how to swap the headers OTHER then going to the mechanic.

If any of you can help me out, or have a lift at home, or even if u work as a mechanic and can help me out cheap then leme know.

I know Im being cheap, but hey, Im a student, plus swapping headers isnt tough with the right tools.

I drive mine, I put on all seasons, take out my cai, put in my stock intake. Get it rust proofed by krown, take off the lip and i'm good to go! Also, when it's above 0 degrees i take it to the coin washer (forget the name) and make sure i get rid of all the salt. But on the really bad days, I don't even drive the civic.

Is it bad to have a CAI (cold air Intake) on during winter. I understand how its already cold so u dont need it. But does it harm the engine?

The last owner did a homemade CAI...its like a big plumbing pipe which I plan to replace next year with the real thing..but just wondering if CAI is bad in winter...

I think I wash mine more in the winter then inthe summer. Every few days in the winter, I just power wash all the salt and grime off and spray up inside the wheel wells.

Like I said before, when the temp is below 20, there is no point washing it, everything is frozen on your car and salt won't do nothing other than being a crystal material on the surface.

When the temp is raising, and you see salt water on the road, and also splashs of salt water, you know the temperature is warm enough to melt ice, that's when you need to keep the car relatively clean as often as possible. So once a week rinse until it is summer. Then wash it once every 2 weeks.

Always look for little chip spots. As soon as you see one, clean it with rust cleaner and patch it up.

it won't harm your engine. I have no bypass valve, so if I drive through a big puddle and water gets into my intake i get good old hydro lock I just take it out for that reason only. I was also thinking about taking out my headers since they are ceramic (do you guys think I should or shouldn't) I still have my OEM exhaust mani and heat shield kicking around

EDIT: i don't even know if the collector matches on my high flow cat, i should really start marking down my specs. lol

If I bought my carr brand new and planned on keeping it for awhile like Bbarbulo. Then I would consider buying a winter car.

WoW Wow, back up there...#1 I dono if I have a bypass valve since my CAI is "Custom" (home made lol).

I have stock headers on...which makes my car slow as hell. I have a HnR racing header at home which is Ceramic wrapped. So ...are you telling me that a Ceramic wrapped header is bad in winter???

these things are not bad. I am just very picky and cautious with my car. Basically, most likely nothing bad will happen to your headers if you put them on. But I would hold off until mayish. The difference in your performance will be minimal anyways. If I take off my headers, it's just one less upgrade I have to worry about getting rusty.

hmm, my header is stainless steel, so I doubt mine would rust. I like to take care of my car too. Ppl are sayin how they would consider buying a beater if they had a ferrari or a porche...a civic isnt worth it.

#1 I dont take my civic to shows as a showcar, but I know I can..
#2 Ive spent alot of money for it..money I cant afford to loose since I am a student.
#3 Im sure someone who drives a porche or a ferrari would consider a 2000 beamer as a beater...and trust me..I know ppl who do.
So compared to them...it makes sense if I only pay less then a grand for a beater.

Im a man who likes to take care of his Sh*t...especialy my first car..

#5 General knowledge never hurt anyone

Btw chris_si98, the hi-pro header makes a pretty big difference on my car...the previous owner told me, plus other friends who have done the same mods on their eg.

I still havent decided completely whether or not to get a beater.

But I think notorious has helped me make my mind a bit. For what its worth, a beater may seem like pointless spending right now, but its better for me in the long run.

If I plan not to go with a beater, I'll have to be 10X more caucious.

this is not on topic, but you should come to CSCS october 8th with us man.

also, a beater may make sense, but why save the money your going to spend on a beater and invest it into your car later on? Or even better, save it. You should just take off the aftermarket pieces such as a kit or lip that you have (i forget what u have) and just clean your car like Charles (novadust) said.

But if you want to purchase a beater, by all means, do so. I wish I could buy one, but money is tight.

lol, it's funny that we are talking about getting a winter beater for a Civic when my friend's dad has had three Porsche Carreras and never once had a beater (then again he buys a new one every 2-3 years).
But if you have the money and are planning on keeping your car for a long time you might as well get one, if not then follow the advice that has been suggested to help your current car get through the winter easier.

I drive this on a daily basis. Rain, shine, cold, salt, whatever.... this is the car I drive. The other one is the car I build.

needed a bunch of work when I got it, it's a 90 with 240K kms 1.5L automatic. now it's close to perfect mechanically so it's super reliable

I know your paint is expensive and all, and it is not a crime to save the paint from the harsh winter season. I agree that people should maintain their personal belongings and if it values that much to you, then you should treasure it, for sure.

Having one car does put limitation on how far I can go with this one. Having a second car simply means I can take out the entire HVAC system and really gut the car inside out. But right now, I can't.
