what brought you here

ok so im just out cruising this past weekend and i for some reason remember that day oh so long ago in the early 90s when i absalutly fell in love with the civic,

my age at the time i am unsure of but i recall comming back from camping with my family at a rather young age and as i look out the window of my dads 400bhp trans am i saw 3 honda civics, (2 eg's and a ef) all done up in big rims and bodykits and stupid big wings cruse by.

i was completly awe struck at how cool and diffrent these cars were than all the other cars on the road. at that point i fell in love with the civic and i had to own one.

sence that day i have never looked back. i love the civic and have owned pretty much every platform from a ef to a em and everything inbetween.

can u guys remember when hondas struck your intrest for the first time?
lets hear about it...after all these times are the stepping stones that built this comunity.
cheers..

I wanted to see if it was true that the Civic was the pinnacle of performance... they lied.

Um... I bought my 00 SiR (EM1) because it was economical, respectfully quick, and it looks good.

There was never a point where I thought I simply had to own a civic though.

Now that I have owned it for just over 4 years, I do love it. It sips gas, is super-reliable, and can shred the tires on demand (see sig) thanks to the little screaming B16 engine. I also love the tunability and enormous aftermarket support as well.

I plan to keep it as long as possible and I would definitely buy another for a double-duty daily-driver/track-day car if anything should happen to it.

It all started with a '90 Prelude SR that I took in on trade at a dealership I worked at. I remember looking at it in the back line-up and thinking: "Hmph, I've never had a Honda before, I wonder if it's all 'Jap Scrap' like everyone else says it is"... and thank god that I bought the car to find out for myself. I loaded 60,000km on it in one year, sold it, and got 90% of my money back. Needless to say, I was hooked.

I'm a certified EF lover... I've had 6 of them (currently have two, a hatch and a sedan), and I absolutely refuse to drive anything else. Inbetween EF's, I bought a '98 Acura EL that was done to the ****! There was nothing this car didn't have! I drove it for a summer and sold it shortly after. It actually didn't have something... the soul of an EF. I immediately bought a '88 EF sedan and sighed a breath of relief, I was home again.

I've worked for BMW for over 6 years now, and everyone assumes I drive one. My customers ask me all the time if I drive the 'Ultimate Driving Experience", and I always stick my chest out and brag about my 1991 Honda Civic CX hatchback in Tehitian Green... and guess what? ...Some people think I'm nuts, but a larger majority came from Honda to BMW and swear the Honda was the best car they've ever had.

My girlfriend drives my '88 EF Sedan and loves it. It's a 1 owner, 180,000km, LX in fantastic condition, and reminds her of her '91 EF Si she bought brand new back then. She get's my love for the EF, she supports my addiction but thinks that eventually there won't be any more EF's for me to buy.. but I tell her no. I'll drive to the deepest southern states to find a clean one, I'll buy multiple sets of rear quarter panels til I die before I ever stop driving these cars.

You know you're in love with your 19 year old civic when; you fantasize about winning 50 million dollars, and the first car you wanna restore to JDM perfection, is your EF.

Good thread JDM Dreamr, you got me to post a reply, lol.

No defining moment sticks out in my mind. Throughout my childhood and early teens, I always wanted a mustang, I even have numerous books on them, which is not surprising, I have hundreds of books. Sometime while I was in highschool in the mid 90's, before I could purchase my first car, my interest changed to civics. At the time a ef was all I could afford. So I bought a 91 SE, which I still own. Its nothing like it was, having been stripped down to the shell and rebuilt over a number of years early in the last decade. Actually, I dont even drive it anymore. Its in the barn at my parents in Carlisle, ont, while I live in Saskatoon!

I didn't have the epiphany moment you are all talking about I just needed a "cheap" economical car. It was going to be the civic, a cobalt or the sunfire. Thankfully I got the 02 si and I absolutely love the car. I've had to replace parts on it, but that's cause I drive the shiza outta it. I'm a certified Honda lover for life now.
