Well, I feel like a complete tool (Civic related)

I put my new Work rims on my EP today. This is the first time I've ever jacked up my car, and it's also the first time I've ever swapped tires. Ever. I'm a newbie, hey, you got to start somewhere/sometime

Unfortunately, I screwed up, huge. I missed the jacking point on the rear, so it caused part of the underbody to indent, causing the spare tire to no longer sit flush in its well. I also ended up "slipping" the front jack point, causing the jack to push up against the radiator! Now my hood won't close properly.

But the rims look GREAT. LOL!1!!!

Oh, learning can be painful at times...

No help, just me. And I know it wasn't the front crossmember. It's just the radiator. Expensive mistake? Yes. Potentially fatal mistake? No.

FYI, I rechecked my shop manual, and it turns out I was totally off on the rear jack point. As for the front, yeah... I had it, but I just misplaced the jack by accident. I think from now on I'll just jack up the corner reinforcement areas to save myself the grief.

EEK...poor poor EP...

Next time, use the rear tow loop located dead center in the rear just behind the lip of the bumper as your jack point. For the front, I use my X member as the jack point....plus it's got a flat round area dead center where the two bars meet for jacking...

For the rear, take all the interior carpeting and spare tire out of the trunk and use a body panel dolly and hammer the crap outta it to make it flat again.

As for the front, depending on the severity of it, you'll need to pull the rad support down on a rack or in some cases replace the rad support. Again, this is dependant on the severity of the damage to the rad support. Check the rad to see if the mounts have cracked off etc. Or better yet, take it to a body shop to have it better inspectied.

Where you trying to jack up the front and back then place 4 jack stands under each corner? Or you just had the hydralic jack under the front all these time (the back as well)?

That hurts ... remind me of the good old days in Auto Class back in Highschool when all these guys kept jacking up the car from the Spare Tire resevoir. I guess the pictures in the Manual aren't very helpful since you weren't able to identify the right jack point.

Thanks for the support, guys. I know I screwed up big, but it's nice to not have people make me feel even worse.

and LOL @ the "motrin" pain comment... that's [B]exactly[/B} how I felt!

Anyhow, you live and learn. For the record, I was trying to jack the car up and put her on stands... as far as I understand it, you aren't supposed to use the actual jack to keep the car off the ground... just to raise it.

Anyhow, I'm going to be scaling back the projects on my car (ya think?) until I can get the basics down.
