im going the same way...ill fix her up mechanically for now and ill save up for the body getting redone as well..and i hope for that to be done by summer..

do we have any local trusted sources for body work??

ive spoken to RHD who offered to do the body properly and repaint it for $1200.. im interested in that route since its only a $400 car..but locally is always preferred you know?

Watch out, you get what you pay for, and I'd take it to a shop unless it's a good friend. When things rust it's from both sides, so if its really rusty and the floor or rockers are starting to go I'd just get a new car. Think of how much money you're putting in a $400 car. Strip it down yourself and get an idea of what you're getting into before you hand it off to get bodywork done. Rust never sleeps.

yeah im a perfectionist

I wouldn't do to my car what i did, if i knew what i do now. I would have bought a car from out west where they don't rust, drove it back then modify the mechanical stuff, then send it for straight forward paint job. IMO $1200 to fix that rust and paint the car means you won't be getting a good job done! All the same though i enjoyed cutting and grinding and welding. I learned a lot doing it myself although it was frustrating at times.

Here is the thread of my car getting painted

hahahahahahahaha..... no.

the sheetmetal alone to replace I'm guessing is rear quarters (both) and rocker panels... plus small patches here and there I'm sure... the cost of the stamped panels exceeds the $1200 'quote' you got from the genious. don't let him touch your car. Team Ruckus does primo work for little money.

I'm surprised no one has said anything about that super rare front bumper you've got there. It looks to me like an Erebuni peice... anyone know for sure?? you might actually get like $200 for that bumper if it's in good original shape and you find the right buyer for it (prolly old skool Cali heads)

another tip, anyone who gives you a price w/o asking to see the car is clownin you and you're just gonna end up with a long wait and a huge overcharge, if it gets done at all. go to a legit shop.

thanks for the advice man..plus yea..didnt realize the bumper is worth anything.. only problem is it needs work..passenger has a crack through (gotta love fiberglass) and its all scuffed up.. i would have no problem trading for a stock bumper..

Who said i was buying full 1/4's and rockers for the car.

I would be making patches for it.

I have lots of pictures and "proof" of the quality of the work.

Im honestly making next to nothing on it anyways. I already have the paint anyways, 4 gallons of white and black, besides.

Also, I wouldnt talk about others work when you havent seen it before.

Thanks.

well that front bumper would only be worth something if it was mint and original.... since you said it's cracked and needs fixing it's prolly not worth anything. since it's quite ugly, it would be worth something as a rare collector's item to guys who can appreciate the history of our cars. but cracked, its useless.

lucky for you an oem looking aftermarket bumper cover can be had for like 60-80 bux from a place like cross canada.
