Building a D16 for N/A is ok if you want to be in stock GSR/ITR territory and don't feel like swapping motors, though it will cost you virtually the same. One of the major reason's I am personally not keen on N/A D16's is the transmission. The best D16 tranny has gearing similair to the worst B-series tranny. You could get custom gears, but that is money.

D16's are a blast when boosted, but I can't see myself recommending building one for N/A, especially now that the price of B-series engines and parts isn't all that steep. You could probably build yourself a pretty nice GSR or LS-Vtec for the amount of money you'd load into a N/A D16. The key is to not buy complete engines. If you are going to work on the internals pick up a spare block, and a spare head, and piece them together.

I picked up a complete GSR bottom end for example for $200. Bought a GSR head for $300. I had some spare JDM ITR pistons lying around, but you can pick these up on ebay for dirt cheap. I used a 2 layer headgasket and that resulted in a nice compression ratio of almost 12:1. That setup was in the 19xwhp range.

A little over a $1,100 bucks to make over 160whp on 12:1 comp engine. I think thats a little cheaper then a B swap. Do some homework. And running 13's with my SI tranny is fine. Last time I checked B16's are in the low 15's high 14's.
I would say anybody who has'nt built a "real D" should keep there comments to themselves because they obviously don't know what there talking about.

At the end of the day, it all depends on the driver and his skillzzzz.

and everyone builds b series now a days, so to have a built D even just keeping up with a slightly modded B, tha would be impressive. Uniqueness is huge.

I think that was $1100USD before shipping, exchange rate, etc. So its going to be a bit more by the time it gets here. Plus any machining costs, and assembly if the person can't do it themselves.

But my point was that for that amount of money you are pretty much maxed out. Don't get me wrong, if someone is fine with 140-160whp, then great, perhaps building a "real D" is the way to go.

Not to mention that for just a bit more you can put a turbo kit on the D16 and without touching the internals run 180-220whp all day with quite a bit more torque.

I'm not here to debate what the better setup is, I'm just offering another point of view. And who said I never built N/A D16's. Let's not toss the "keep comments to yourself" line so lightly.

Still cheaper then him doing any B swap.
And reguardless if he can't do his own work. He would have had to pay for somebody to the swap D or B so that evens it'self out.
