VW question

VW question

guy at my work drives a late 90's jetta and he was on the on ramp today when his timing belt broke. he's getting his belt put back on but he's affraid that his motor is going to be phuqed.
just thought if anyone used to have a jetta out there can offer an opinion.

if the timing belt broke off there is a big chance the engine could be gone. depends how quick he turned off the car if he left it on the thing will just keep grinding and you can hear that weird noise ssssssqqqqquuuuuuikkkkk. lol

Yeah, I have had a friend with that same problem but with a different car on the highway. He got it fix and still driving it now.

Check to see if VW's have zero interference valves..

I know on honda's ****** timing belt goes, engine goes boom (i did that to my friends 93 Prelude.. blew up an H23 because he didn't do his timing belt)..

Too bad honda wasn't as smart as mazda and make the valves have zero interference... If the belt ever snapped on my mazda protege.. it would just me the engine would shut down.. No permanent damage... I can't stress chaning your belts enough on any honda...

NIssan uses Chains so there isn't much to worry about..
