Canadian EX = US LX ... No VTEC
US EX = Nothing in Canada (but the 1.6 EL is close) Both have VTEC.
Now, if you have a swap, you should know if it is VTEC or not and the above doesn't apply.
Another way to notice is the how the throttle body is mounted. If you can't see it and there is a "box" in the middle of the engine, the bore is in a "vertical position" under the "box" and is non-VTEC. If the bore is horizontal, you should be able to see the throttle body at the back of the engine. The air box should be towards the front of the car on the passenger side. Does that make sense?

if you have vtec you'll have a selonoid in the engine bay... it looks like a small cylinder with wires coming in it and such and if your looking in the engine bay it will be on the top left side of the motor...
unless honda changed its location but thats where it is on my car

punkindrublic ... vtec was quiet in your car .... only thing I really liked (and what through me for a loop) was the extra 1000 rpm or so before needing to shift ...... and the long gears ......
when I go for a race engine it will be a b20 that will be built for high revs and lots of high cam lift ... yeah yeah yeah I lose some low end and get a nasty idle but on the race track your ussually never in that low of rpm ... lowest RPM I saw on track at mosport DDT was 3500 .... anyways .... I don't think VTEC is needed except for fuel economy.....
