the short block could've been swapped with another head ...so that's where the grey areas come in...

can't you even hear the VTEC kick in? Or feel a slight jerk when you're above 4500rpm? I'm sure you can

Or like SilverCRXSi said, installing a VTEC light would help too

you know what it might be a 2nd gen but im not too familiar with the differences from the 1st and 2nd gen's.
btw you should of been familiar with the differences between the 2 before you even do a swap. who does a swap and doesen't know what motor he has in his car after it's done. you could of got ripped off large.

as long as you got a DOHC and you didn't get ripped off for paying extra $$ then it's cool... you're probably going to go nuts and swap those damn dinky B16A cams for Type R or more agressive ones one day or another

From what the rexers tell me the only way to differentiate a 1st and 2nd gen b16 is wether or not the its a hyrdo tranny.
1st gens are cable tranny and 2nd gens+ are hydro tranny.

Well you could also look at the engine code stamped on the block too...

Look at the throttle body (as long as its original)
