Tires are so god damn expensive in Canada...

So i'm looking to buy a set of summer tires (235-45-17) and so I checked tire rack and found a set for for about 320USD shipped. The same set here costs 600-700 PLUS taxes. Why is there such a drastic price difference. It's literally double in this case. I'd rather buy in the states and pay the 50$ of duty and still come up on top. How do the places here justify their prices?

Purchase from the US will be 450 CAD installed and balanced give or take 50$

Purchase form here will be $800 CAD give or take $50.

Total savings could range from 350-450 on a set of tires which is double the cost of buying here.

Makes no sense to me!

tirerack has great prices even for the US... you need to compare the same type of outlets...

but everything is more expensive here... we're 1/10th the size of the US .... less competition

Where are people finding tires here for reasonable prices? I'm more then likely going to just buy from the states. I mean, i could order two sets for the price of one here. Even if duty is more then expected by another $50, it's still a great deal in the states.

And to drive to buffalo is impossible because my new rims do not have tires on them right now...

I'd rather pay the taxes/duties and still save hundreds of dollars...Canada sucks when it comes to tires.

so go to the states and spend like 100 or 200 on gas, pay duty for the tires, purchase the tires and return back to have them installed for extra money and lets not forget all the time spent and wasted = worth it?

i'd rather buy it here.

uhh

100-200 on gas?

wtf kinda car do you drive meng?

more like $10 gas and NOT claiming them at the border

and depending how much they cost...yes its worth it

ive done this with my Tein SS (saved me about $400)

Did it with almost all my car audio equipment (saved about $1000)

etc, etc.

I even did it for my mcgards because noone here would sell the black spline drives for under $200 and I got them for $65 from a US store

drive to buffalo with a few friends, take your car in and have the work done, go drink in a hotel room, go club/bar hopping till 4am, crash in a hotel, and go to anchor bar for breakfast.

the purpose of your trip was the 4am last call.

done and finished.

WTF! $100+ on gas Now that's BS.

You're going to spend the $ anyways on install and balance either here or in the states. If you're going to save more than $200 I would buy from the states.
