Timing Belt

ok so I called the dealer to ask how much a timing belt and water pump costs, thinking its time to change them on my car, nearing 100 000K

He said...after 1996 the belts were redesigned..
I have a 99 civic with 97 XXX on it and the dealership said i dont need to change my belt till i hit 168 XXX or 7 yrs from the date of my car (2006)

Anyone else heard this?

168 is under normal conditions (like single seasons)
100 is under severe conditions (cold winters.....hot summers)

i have a 98 and a dealership told me 168K also but the service advisor told me to change it around 130 to 140K just to be on the safe side.

read your owners manual doods...

160,000 mostly highway milage or long trips
100,000 short trips or stops and go driving

this is in my manual ... got a 98 DX coupe

i have heard since the begining of my honda experiance 100k is the time to do the belt/pump

honda felt they were being a little overkill on the changes so they upped them a bit

they should go back to chain instead of belt then you never have to worry
