thx for the welcome
well, my budget is quite tight....like, i want to get a car for less than $20k on the ground without buying used. i believe honda has a student discount program that might help me out. i can't drive stick too well yet (im getting better) but i wanna get a 5 speed.

Welcome to the club. If you are looking at new the warranty would cover and reliability problems and it is a Honda so what could go wrong

have you thought about used....
with that kinda flow you could get a nice 6th gen Si (with warrenty left) and even have quite a bit left over for mods or maybe a nice vacation

6th gen all the way!!!!!!!!

ok, i'm biased, I drive a 6th gen (it's a DX as well!) 5 spd, coupe... hmm.. yea. that's bout it.. i love it except the lack of power when i turn on the AC! but outside that, i spent like 12 grande (but i had a trade in and it was used off lease..) look around, u'd be surprised how cheap 98 -> 2000 dx's are.. and then u can build it up the way u like!

i thought about buying used but im worried about what the previous driver has done to the car. i also like having the car under warrenty...
maybe a certified honda pre-owned one would be alright...
how much should i expect to pay for a new DX? how much would i save on getting a used one?

oh yea. i shouldv'e mentioned that the car was off-lease after 3 years... so in exactly the same fear of you, i payed like 2 grand for a 2 year warrenty... in hindsight... a waste, but alas, it was peace of mind!

Here she is!

BUT... they're faster than all the other cars I've driven, and speed isn't everything, infact, if this is a daily driver on the 401 during rush hour, you want comfort/AC etc etc

Just get an Si coupe (6Gen), unless you're worried about insurance and then get a CRX and swap in a b16
Um ya, I suggest ya go for used man, but if ya go for a 6G, make sure it works and with the extra money, swap in a b18c5.
I'm sure everyone here can agree with me on that!

But um ya I'm hoping to get another car next year and I'm thinking on eiether a DX coupe (Si would be great but insurance I no think will be low) or an EK Hatch, pref. DX Model (I want the tach!)

Good luck though man.

In hind-sight, I should have gotten an SI cause the DX is pretty slow and doesn't have power windows or moon roof. I still love it never the less and it has stayed reliable for me for the past 2.5 years.

welcome to the club.....you can get a used honda (they can get beat the **** out of and still keep going)....dx should be fine. You can always put in the necessary mods later to make it faster than the Si....
I say this cuz you mentioned cash cash cash is a concern in practically every post

the only mod that will make a DX faster than an Si is a swap

I picked up my 1998 Si-G for $16500 with tax and all the other **** they charge you for from a Honda Dealer. It only had 44000kms on it when I got it, and the powertrain warranty is good till 100000kms. Free oil changes too. Look around there are lots of 6th gen Si out there, and the insurance isn't that much more than a DX. Get a Hamilton auto trader, Image Honda has like 3 of them last time I had my car serviced.

You can supercharge or turbo.....don't need only to do a swap. But agree, I think the swap is the best bet.

I agree about getting used instead of new. You can save thousands (ie. freight, PDI, etc.). My mom bought a 2002 RSX this past weekend that was used (5000 km) for $22,000. If she were to have bought the exact same car new it would have cost over $27,000.

ok i guess i will consider getting a used car then since hondas are so reliable...
but should i get a 6th gen or 7th gen? i think that the previous gen civic looks better than the current one but i also want a recent model and something not too old. what were the models for the 2000 civic coupe? was there anything else besides the si and the dx for 2000? i guess features like power windows and AC would be nice....which models came with them?
even tho the 6th gen civic looks better, i think i'd rather get a 7th gen because it is more up to date. if i go used, which models should i consider and how much should i expect to spend?

thx a lot guys.

I believe the 2000 Civic coupe came in DX, SE (special edition DX), Si, and SiR. Of these, the SiR is the best, but would be more than your budget of $20,000. Search on www.autotrader.ca for 2000 Civics and see what you can find. You might also be able to find some slightly used 2001 and up Civics as well. I found two 2001 Si's (both automatic though) last week while searching for a car for my mom, selling for a lot less than new with really low km's (6000 km).

Good luck.
