These are just my thoughts (car shows)

Before you read this, I'm not here to offend anyone. These are just MY thoughts regarding Importfest or any other shows.
First of all, I'm not going. Why? Well, if you've been to one, you've been to them all. I bet most of the people that'll end up going will be disappointed when it's over... just like almost every other show.

Now I'm just wondering how many threads are gonna be started by complaints about paying for parking, or $15 (or whatever it is) admission fee was not worth it. Well, I guess if it's the first time to a show, it's ok, cuz you never knew what it was all about. The 2nd time goer? Hmmm? I guess you get a pass too cuz you may have been unlucky your first time around or you were checking out a show by another group. All 3rd time goers, please don't complain after the show if you didn't like it. You did go to 2 other shows, so you would know what it's all about. Unless...you did like your 1st 2 shows you went to.

I also don't understand why people would complain about paying for parking? It is downtown at the Skydome. Are people expecting to park for free down there? People should know that there'll be a parking charge.

Anyone else agree with what I said or is it just me?

Anyways, these are just my thoughts.

Are you referring to the blue one? Well, I do give that guy credit for the creativity, but it's definitely not a conversion I would do. If I ever did a conversion on my Civic, I would only consider the JDM ITR front end.

I agree 100% with what you are saying. In spite of that, I still go to alot of the shows, but unlike others I don't complain about it. If someone asks what I thought of a particular show, I will tell them (positive or negative), but not to the point of saying I wasted alot of money, etc.

i also agree that the shows downtown in the winter are expensive for admission and parking (including the new car show, the boat show etc) but its fun to see some clean cars in the winter in a warm place so i put up with it cuz they are not that often (once a month?) - besides this time i expect to run into some other club members there which should be fun!!

The way I see it it is like going to a casino...you can't expect to be a winner everytime and you need to convince yourself you are just paying for a few hours of entertainement. I've been to a bunch of TO-based shows too...and yeah they suck... but I'll go again because I can honestly say that every show I have been to I have seen one car, or one install, or one part, or one trick, or one paintjob or something cool that has pumped me up... that's worth $15.

I agree with everything you said. But I still go to most shows and enjoy myself. I do get tired of the threads full on complaints about a show they knew would be expensive to go to.

I haven't been to a single local show that has impressed me. SEMA own3d, but then again, that show is pure $$$.

The thing I hate about local shows is that they are nothing but flea markets. Also, the cars that enter the shows are the same nasty ones that I see on the street. The cars that I want to see are generally owned by people who have nothing to prove by entering the show. Kinda like how a lot of hot girls don't enter beauty pagents.

Import Racer, I agree with your thoughts (which are in fact complaints themselves, if you think about it ). That's ok though man, I understand where you're coming from.

I've gotta agree with Mr. Japscrap racing too though...
this time i expect to run into some other club members there which should be fun!!
That's the biggest reason that I'll be going!

Well the Neon was creative and somewhat original, but wouldn't it have been easier to get a civic in the 1st place?
I dunno its just me...

I agree that the local shows are like flea markets (especially the ones here) where you see lots of "projects".

I just hope the field isn't full of Subaru's again... I mean I do like them but thats just too much...

Need more CRX's me thinks!

That car is a work of art! Much respect to that dude/shop.

Yes I do agree its expensive to see the same cars.

But I can look at these car all the time because they are so SICk! I love the show scene and Im so anxious to go I cant fuking wait!

Last year I heard importfest on the radio I went. I had no idea of the "scene" or cars. I was blown away....

Somthing just hit me and Ive been obsessed ever since. Importfest was crazy! This year its going to be better!

Its a different show when your competing though, compared to just "seeing" the cars. You get to display your pride and joy at a car show! That gives me a kick for some reason.

Ive competed in 7 or 8 shows since march and I plan to be at everone I can. Big or small-Even 10 car turn-outs canadian tire, there all the same fun.

I see you point. Just have pure nasty cars only and not the ones you see drivin' around....

Even the ones that I consider nice here (there aren't many cause I'm very picky) and nothing compared to the ones in the U.S. Ofcourse, the U.S. is where all the big dogs play and they got way more money.

I find that cars are getting nastier and nastier. I dunno if it's just my taste that's changing or what. In their quest for "originality", people will do anything. I can't stand cross-breeding cars (ie. MR2 side vents on Integras, S2000 taillights on Preludes, etc.). People have basically tried everything that people just do anything to differentiate themselves. IMO, 99% of the time, it's nasty.

Lemme tell you, SEMA basically spoiled all other shows for me. At the show, I saw Stephen Papadakis' Civic, Adam Suruwatari's NSX and Civic, Realtime RSX, Chris Rado's Celica, RJ Simrock's Focus, etc. Those cars were crazy! Too bad we rarely get a chance to see these cars up here.
