how can all you guys say they are not illegal?

they are LEGAL ONLY if they have a DOT marking on it. if it doesnt have it they are ILLEGAL.

i have seen sets of tail lights for the same car and same year without a DOT marking and got a ticket for it not being legal.

where do you find the dot markings on the lights, on the inner black housing or on the outside translucent part?

Should be right on the outside of the light. Usually at the bottom.

A DOT (Department of Transportation) is an american rating valid in the States. It has no juristiction here, as we do not have a department of transportation, but rather a ministry of transportation..

usually the laws are similar enough that a DOT certified product will also comply with canadian laws, but the DOT rating itself is meaningless here.

NO PART is created seperately for the canadian market alone for it to be MTO marked and even the ones that are made for the canadian market alone are still DOT marked.

must be marked on the outside and must be visible at all times without having to remove any components to unveil its markings.
