TCC Thanks & Final Thoughts...My Z6 Swap
 

Tonight I finally finished and got my swap working. After 3.5 weeks, replacement parts, late night, headaches, yelling, and cheking and rechecking that things were in order, my z6 replacment is finally done.

Once the motor was back in the car (after swapping a clutch and tranny on the new motor), I experienced a few CELs, one that was misdiagnosed by my GM mechanic friend (that was just the misplacement of a sensor on the harness) and one that required a new sensor.

But by far the most frustrating problem occured when I went out for a test drive with it. My axle came out, leaving me stranded in the middle of intersection on dundas. Luckily for me, ryanhook, Torrey, and Jooksingkid came to my rescue and pushed me out the intersection and followed me back home as my dad towed my car with my brothers truck.

Once back at my house, Jooksingkid and 'old school' black EG6 Rob came initiated me into the "fallen out axle club" and helped me reinstall it...which got me back on the road.

So I want to thank the following persons for their help during my swap:

Especially my dad, brother(s), loudsubz, jooksingkid, bbarbulo, ryanhook, torrey, atallaman, and old school black EG6 Rob. Without these people, my swap never would have happened. Its things like this that make being a member of TCC so valuable. Its about the people that I've met on this board, who make our club what it is.

As for the swap....on a scale of 1-10 I would rate it a 6 for level of difficulty. The only prior work experience I had done on my car, was an oil change and cluster swap. So with a some common sense knowledge around tools, a manual, an enginehoist, and friends to help along the way, you can do your own swap. For me, it was well worth it because I'm more confident when it comes to working on my car, and I know so much more about how it functions.

As Jooksingkid says, "they're just nuts and bolts."

hehe swaps are fun... lol .. i took my time but it came out perfect.. only cel i got was because one vacuum hose wuzn't hooked up in right place... other than that it went perfect :)

He went from being an oil burning ricey kid i met to a couple years ago, to a full blown grease monkey doing a swap outta his own garage.

I'm glad you got it all worked out. 3.5 weeks is really not that bad, between work, hunting for parts, and so on. Anyways, it's great to hear of a success story of going from mook to mechanic in the JSK intensive school of grease monkeyism. Congrats :thumbup: :thumbup: respect
