Tapping a hole

Does anyone know where I can get the tool to tap a hole for a bolt? I need to tap one for a 12mm bolt.. I tried home depot but they didn't have it.. anyone know off hand if CT would have it or any other place for that matter? Also, I think it's fairly straight forward but do any of you have any tips before I get started on this?

CT should have something, if not Carquest has several tap and die kits

12mm is a metric size so make sure you get the pitch right... For internal thread, the tap drill size has to be smaller. Let me know if you need help with calculations

as for tips, make sure to use some tapping oil. turn it 1/2 a turn and then go back a quarter of a turn. Keep doing that till your all the way through. oh yeah, and make sure u wear safety goggles

I've tapped many a whole manually, no need for goggles.

On a lathe....different story.

Do I have to use tapping oil? or can I just use any type or lubricant?

Tapping oil/fluid is best but I've used some good ol' 5w30 in a fix.
