$1500 is a bit much

do the guy a favour and get a replacement door.
You should be able to do this repair for $500 or so

Damn Steve, its just not your day! Ticket, and a minor bender! That sucks!

As far as the door goes, thats a tough situation. Its really hard to get people to pay, unless you really scare the **** out of them. I had that happen to me when i was down in Texas. Some stupid chick backed into my drivers side door, while I was in the parking lot. I ended paying 800 bucks to fix the damn thing.

If you can track down this person, and make them pay for it, good, go for it! But I think there is a clause that if the accident is not reported in 48hrs, the cops cant do anything for ya.

Good luck though... Someone else may have some useful info on this type of accident.

At least he was honest enough to confess. I can give you that.

I guess he wanted you to file an hit and run report to the insurance and in which case, the insurance will make you pay the deductable and they will pay for the rest but the rate "should not" go up since it wasn't your fault. Then he will cover the deductable which will be, well, sorta a win win situation because if it was too much to repair, you get a brand new door skin anyway.

Your rate will go up if the insurance company puts ANY money into your car...dont be fooled. I would go through his insurance company if he is unwilling to cover the whole amount. Contact him QUICK and if he has any hesitation file a police report. You really are lucky though that he admitted to it. If you can cut him a break and get a cheaper new door on there, it would be good for karma points I would think.

As for the new car.....obviously you cannot be paying for your own insurance if you are considering an Audi. If your parents are willing to pay then I guess go for it. I know that if my parents would have paid for my insurance on a high end car when I was 17, I would have got one too. But I was perfectly happy with the 1990 Topaz that I never took a penny out of my parents pocket for...and no one made fun of me for having that car...a car dosent make the man......the ladies that you're with makes the man heh

You can get a nissan sentra brand new for around 13g, with the essentials. Power locks, alarm, cd player. ANd the warranty is good. But i would go with a civic or used car for sure.

I am paying my own insurance. I dont want to go over again how much I work to afford my insurance. Now its going to go up because of this ticket, and now I gotta go under my own insurance. Anyone suggest any companies ?

I believe mine is called York Fire and Casulty...something like that. They were the cheapest my broker could find. My old insurance(ING Novex) wanted approx $250 a month but with York i only pay $142.

I would definately not buy anything newer considering your age. Be happy with what you have unless theres something seriously wrong with your car....besides the whole door thing....and think about how hard you work to pay for the car/insurance....is it really worth it to blow it on another car?

ah ****, i think i'm getting old

I say a nice used Maxima or like you said, an A4.

However, for style purposes I think that the Civic you've got is already great!

If you're moving off campus you don't need a car like i said on MSN.

Save your money and buy something new and nicer than the civic in a few years.
