Street Racing Story Update
I've seen a few post about this in the old forum. It appears that it was ruled not to be a Street Racing Incident. Interesting...........

who knew the media was hyping this and the judge was still able to give a somewhat reasonable verdict.
Poor little girl with her coerced speech "street racing killed my parents" Good job Cam wolley. Couldn't have been the double over!

^^ exactly media always hypes... and cam woolley is def part of the media he might wear a badge but he's a media icon...
i'm happy to hear that they clarified that it wasn't street racing altho going 150 on a road that should be 60? - should carry a stiffer sentence than that though... that speed has no excuse. lifetime driving ban maybe?

i say one lashing per every 10 kms over the speed limit. the rich and the poor should face the same punishment, and a fixed fine doesn't do that... if you're dead broke, a $115 fine for example is murdaaa whereas for someone driving say a porsche it's merely parking change. so fack it, hand out one lashing per 10 kms over

I think it's funny that a case of speeding is re-labeled street racing. Why?
OOOOOOOOOOOOO, because the cars were Honda's.
It's a sad and unfortunate situation, but both parties are to blame. One is speeding and the other is driving drunk. On the way into work this morning, Z103 news talked about the trial outcome, and mentioned that they guys were getting off without jail time. But no mention of the other guy driving with his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
Where the accident happened the speed limit is 80km/h. kingjames1983, to back you up, Z103 did mention that it was estimated that the cars were going about 25-30km/h over the seed limit. Why is the media reporting that they guys were doing 150km/h? Based on the trial and actually evidence they were going 105 to 110km/h. I typically try to keep my speed within the speed limit and 5km/h over. From my own experience, the majority of typical Toronto drives speed, 10-20 km/h over the limit. I know because they typically ride my *** or pass me when I'm doing the limit.
I'm not agreeing that it was OK for these guys to speed. But if you think about it, they were driving like typically Toronto drivers. If it was a Ford car that was speeding and hit that couple, do you think this would be labeled a Street Racing Accident? I sadly don't think so.

I love what they wrote in the star "The Hondas had been modified with larger tires and exhausts, lowered suspensions, and air intakes that allow the use of high-octane fuel, police said after the crash."
WOW I never knew my air intake would allow me to use high octance fuel 101 hear I come

i love how at the bottom they've got a link to other street racing related accidents, yet no link for all of the drunk driving accidents that resulted in death. They'd have pages and pages and pages and pages of articles in that link.
This would be a whole different story if the drunk driver hit the guys speeding. Hell i bet it wouldn't have got any media attention at all, other than the typical little article on the local paper.
I think the whole seize your car for 50km/hr over is rediculous, but if they're going to have ghey rules like that i needs to be uniform. In order for it to work, it NEEDS to be applied to other offenses, like driving drunk, loose ur car and ur license, steal a car, loose ur license. Rape someone loose ur dick and loose ur privaledge to have sex for 5 years.

What can we do, this is the hobby/life style that some of us have chosen and to majority, it is not the norm and is frawn upon.
I think justice is served based on the court out come. I hope the young men learned their lesson. As for the other family, try to reverse the thinking if the drunk driving father/relative had killed someone else that night, what would they do or who would they feel sorry for.
The victim is not always the innocent one.
