Street Racing article.....getting stupid....=(

Well as I was sitting at work being bored i was reading the toronto star site and came across this.

http://www.thestar.com/News/article/227464

I got so pissed when reading it that I sent an email to the star and apparantly my email should be in the paper tomorrow under some other street racing article they are going to be publishing...lol
read the article first and just see how stupid it really sounds....lol

here is what i sent in..

I would just like to comment on the article I just read on street racing. I myself have a Honda civic that has been modified. Thats the mistake I made right there. I have always loved the tuner car scene so when the chance came to get myself a nice civic, I didn't think twice. I don't get pulled over now because of my car. I get pulled over at least 3 times a week because I am 21 and drive this car. My dad can take it out anytime and he speeds everywhere but there seems to be some kind of mutual respect between "adults" and cops since he never seems to get pulled over. I can be driving home at 9pm from work, signalling to make a left, keeping my car quite (since the exhaust isn't even loud) and I will still get pulled over right after the corner that I had just made perfectly because some random officer who saw me waiting decided to convince himself that either a. being young I have drugs in the car. or b. everything on my car is illegal and I was just on my way to a street race. This is getting stupid now. There are plenty of people like myself who modify their civics to the point where they are faster than a corvette but still keep it legal and safe on the roads. I love the way my car looks, its faster than most muscle cars and really gives me a sense of satisfaction when I get in and drive. Apparantly now I should really watch out because of some overly cocky, very confused officers who seem to feel they can decide themselves which cars get crushed because they look like street racers. This is getting ridiculous and as they search for their "street racers" someone is getting shot at jane and finch because all the officers in the area are hasseling a young man/lady in a honda civic down the street. Its like finding gold to them when they pull me over and its really just getting stupid.
Thanks

How many people die from guns each year in Ontario compared to Street Racing Deaths?

CONTROL GUNS BEFORE YOU CONTROL STREET RACERS!

you've never been pulled over for DWB (driving while black)?...lol....j/k

I've got a pretty modified car (boosted b16, 95 coupe, lowered and stuff) and i never get harassed by cops.

But seriously, i hope there will be some sort of payment for the thousands for dollars they are just crushing on some "gut feeling".

i'm sure if the cops looked hard enough they might find a tiny bit of weed but thats not even what i was complaining about. I got pulled over on lakeshore just in front of hurontario not even 2 weeks ago and long story short i ended up with my hands on the hood of my car, pockets empty, everything on the hood while 1 officer watches over me while 2 others are tearing sh*t apart looking for ecstacy. swear to god...lol...the one cop who pulled me over said i did a u-turn when i saw her even though i didn't see her and i actually just did a u-turn to start heading back home..lol...when she asked for my insurance papers i had my antibiotics for a sinus infection in my glove box and right when she saw that she asked what it was, i told her, showed her the bottle, and randomly she started saying its a bad E area so thats when she went from being kinda nice to just plain stupid angry...lol

as for who i sent it to, i couldn't find a good link myself so i just clicked on the link to report a typo or correction and I got a message back saying that it was being passed on to the journalists, then i got another message back from the typo people asking whether it was alright to put it in the paper...so just do the same thing cuz apparantly they actually read what people send in

i can understand how i prolly looked kinda bait but i didn't even see the cop (she wasn't on the street, prolly in a parking lot off the side of the street) and I can see how maybe she would think something is up but when i pull over normally, talk normally cuz i'm obviously hiding nothing and she gets 2 cops in with me stuck to the front of my car while they search for like almost 45 minutes.......thats just stupid....oh and all the antibiotics were labeled and stamped and what not so its not like they were blank pills...hahahah

Thats ridiculous.

Hopefully one day they will realize that not every modded car is involved with street racing.

I sincerely hope someone out there in the force can distinguish between what an enthusiast's car, and someone who drives like a bat out of hell for no reason.

Those who love to speed and drive recklessly will do so in any type of car - van, sports car, rust bucket, anything. It is in their blood to do so. As for the type of car they are in, barely.

I feel sorry for the trucker, and I completely agree of drive safely on the street and not do so like an idiot. Should they wish to pull over someone, I can only wish they can perform a full investigation rather than going by gut feeling.

As a "speed shop" owner, I take great offense to the Attorney General Michael Bryant and his comparison of my legal business, to something as putrid as a bomb factory, or a drug lab.

We do not modify our cars, and our customers cars with the intent in mind that these vehicles will be used for street racing. We do it because of a common passion found amongst car enthusiasts to tinker with their cars, and to make them unique to their tastes.

These enthusiasts whom we support pour their hearts, creativity, and hard earned money into cars that ultimately become an expression, and thereby extension of their own being.

While the enthusiasts we deal with come from a very diverse spectrum of the population, it would be a grave mistake to group them all under one category of speed demons who appear to not be sound of mind. What the enthusiast does with the car on the streets is his own decision, but the same holds true for any human being. Thus allowing the few to ruin an entire hobby for the majority is a shame, and an embarrassment.

Young people in fact should be commended for their interest in something as productive as modifying their vehicles. I would much rather have them doing this as a hobby then getting involved in illegal activities such as gangs, drugs, and theft. Cars are an entire culture, spanning generations, and involve some of the greatest minds this planet has to offer.

So I say again, to Attorney General Michael Bryant, that his words are offensive, discriminating, stereotyping, and ignorant. I can only pray he has never gone over the speed limit, for that would make him a hypocrite as well.

Street Racing is a serious matter that deserves attention.

BUT... They are going about it all wrong by instantly pointing the finger at modified cars. Of the accidents over the weekend, which are supposedly street racing... which car is modified? I saw pictures of all the crashes, and the first one was a STOCK MK4 Gold, and a STOCK brand new Civic, and a STOCK Grand Am, and a STOCK Mustang.

Yet they are quick to say how they are going to crush your car the minute it rolls out of the shop, even if your doing 5 under. These are the people that are leading our nation... scary isn't it?

Why don't they immidiatly seize a Z06 rolling of the lot? They would blow just about any modified sport compact away.

I saw a statment by Transport Minister Donna Cansfield, where she warned parents to pay attention the the cars that their kids are driving. So basically, she was saying its not HOW you drive that makes you a street racer, its WHAT you drive.

what i hate the most....is i can be the so called "modified racer" which i dont street race and some other kid with mommy or daddys caddy or g35 or so on will peel away at the lights just to try and beat a "modified car". so tell me where the justice is for that one. i know we will never get that image washed from some of us. Thanks to others that have ruined in for us, but as i can recall the ones making the laws for us now, were most likely the ones racing there chevelle's chargers and roadrunners at the local quater mile painted on the road.

I have respect for the laws and how some shud be inforced but not when they are picking on the wrong cars.

you want to catch the bad guys then set up stings...and roadblocks with undercovers hiding in the bush. If they can seize cars right out of a shop, then i'd hate to see how porshe and bmw and all the other sports car companies produce cars with high hp output and upgraded suspensions.

Police look at the demographic most likely to be careless. Then they look at the type of car most likely to be involved in street racing. Obviously the system is not perfect, but they should be allowed to check random cars if they think the car is not deemed fit for the road or if people are caught street racing. I will admit there are idiot cops out there who don't know their foot from their hand when it comes to illegal or legal modifications, but if you do get a wrongful ticket for an "illegal" modification, go to the courts and fight it off.
