Stalling? Bad? How bad?

Hi guys, well I finally traded by Civic in for a 350Z. Picked it up 2 days ago, such a sweet ride!

Anyway, I haven't driven standard in 9 years, and when I did, I sucked. :D

So after I got the car and started breaking it in, I couldn't get the clutch feel and stalled it about 10-15 times in that time period. All of them are dead stop stalls (trying to get going). That damned clutch is heavy! I'm feeling pain seeing my Z being abused by me! I HATE IT! But honestly, how bad is it to an unbroken in engine to stall it?

PS: I'm getting better now. I haven't stalled it in a while. :)

Just hold clutch while braking?

I stall the car while trying to get it moving. That's all. Letting the clutch out too fast while not giving it enough gas. Heavy clutch... it just drops. So how bad is it?

it's not that bad.

why not rent a beater for a few days for practise.

cosmic has one if you're interested :D

Thanks for offer. :) I think I'm having trouble with the heavy clutch that's all. Unless if comsic's beater has a heavy clutch. Isn't stalling almost the same as just shutting the engine off?

isn't some damage being done to the clutch? i mean, nothing serious, but isnt a percentage of damage being done? not as serious as glazing your clutch though

i was always under that assumption.

edit: oops, u said not THAT bad ( thought you said not bad at all )

congrats on the new car......
cant wait for my Skyline :(

I wouldnt think there wouldnt be much harm unless youre revving pretty high....if you feel it going to stall just hold the clutch in...so you don tget that jerking feeling....

Sweet car!!!....exactly what Id want too....cant wait to see it around london!!!

you sell the civic with all the mods?

imported_daquel 03-Feb-2003 04:23 AM

Congrats on purchasing a real beauty!

Thanks guys! The Nissan dealer took my car as a trade in, with the tax savings and everything, it's like I sold my car privately for $20,000. So that's decent. I probably could have really tried and got a couple of more grand out but hey, for a modded car, I got decent money for it. All I did was ask, then lowballed me and talked them up 2 grand!

if your stalling it alot, itll get really hot, and ul start to smell sumthin burning.... itll wear your clutch alot, but considering ur car is new, i wouldnt worry about it.... stick to it till u get it and everything should be fine.

BTW, sweet car!!!
