EJ6 D16Y7 CANADA - CX - DX - SE - LX - EX "Coupe/Hatch/Sedan"
EJ8 D16Y8 CANADA - Si "Coupe"
EM1 B16A2 CANADA - SiR "Coupe"
for 96-00
We Do not have an EK Civic here... so everyone with a hatch stop calling your car an EK!

As far as I know, EK is a general chassis code for all civics from 1996-2000. The other codes, (i.e. EM1, EJ8 ... etc.) are for individual cars. If someone says that they have an EM1, that would mean that the car originally came off the assembly line with a B16A2 motor, 5 speed manual, Black Red or Blue paint, etc..
As for spotting a fake, check the vin numbers on the car. Usually found on the main body parts and engine. If they all match its fine. If they don't, start asking questions of why they don't.
