Ok.. This has been bugging me for some time.. My car is an '88 Hatch.. It has no badge but the rear plate says it's a Special Edition.. The original recipt and owners manual both say Special Edition.. But honestly their is nothing special about it.. No A/C, No Beefed motor, No power stearing, no leather seats.. Heck not even a dam cup holder.. It's an manual with a tach.. Does that make it special??
Whats the deal with that what is so special about it?

are the mouldings colour matched with a blue or red pinstripe? is it 5spd not 4spd? does it have white hubcaps?

if so, thats a "special edition" civic for 88 with no options, usually they had power steering...but in the end its still a rank basemodel worth crap

someone replaced the rear panel with a junkyard peice from an actual special edition. special editions are usually released two to three years after the initial redesign in order to boost sales.

most real special editions should therefore be 90-91 models.

in recent history you should remember the 6th gen didn't get it's "special edition" until 99-00... and the initial model year for the 6th gen was 96. all it is, is a base model DX LX or CX model with a few power options and AC usually.

my buddies 94 sedan lx is a "special addition" only thing special I see is AC

yup, thats what makes the LX Special Edition, special. It has A/C, whereas the LX does not. Probably amongst other things.
