Hey guys,
I'm pretty new to this whole Honda world of mods, swapping etc and I am just wondering about the engine I dropped into my Dx.
I currently have a 1990 auto' DX with a JDM SOHC ZC. Is there anyone out there that can clarify which car this from? Secondly I was wondering if I should keep the DX tranny and DX ecu.

any suggestions are welcome.

you can do the MPFI swap on it. you pretty much have a 4th gen si motor but a dx fuel setup. actually if you do the MPFI swap you can get a bigger power gain from the motor.


you can upgrade the tranny aswell if ya like too.

Thanks that makes more sense to me than the guy I got the engine from who said," all you need is the engine." He had no idea how much horsepower etc. there is a ractive short ram intake on my engine as well so who knows how much I have now..LOL nut much but it's a start oh well ....that's why I'm on this forum.


Start with the basics like the info you gave me before I buy headers and do a cat back.

idont know too much about the older honda motors, bu don't those motors have vtec in them? if he is running his stock ecu then vtec probably isnt working...


oooh... and do a 5spd swap...

Yeah if it's a single cam ZC motor it has vtec and he'd need to change the ecu. An ecu out of a old intergra ( the one with pop up light's ) will do.

The SOHC ZC I had didn't have vtec

not all sohc zc have vtec...and since he kept the dpfi no ecu change is needed or will work for that matter, the pm5 ecu is all it needs, now if he was to do the dpfi swap he would need the pm6 at very least along with all the other necessary dpfi stuff...also mr riceburner a pg7 ecu doesnt even have vtec so that ecu would be worthless on the vtec engine, that ecu is good for sohc/dohc zc motors with no vtec

Thanks for the insight guys. I went to my mechanic the other day and He'll do the MPFI swap for me.

- So after I do the swap I should use an old integra ecu?
-I also heard that I could use a p28 chip without the swap....but Im doing the swap anyway so forget that...
- You all think Jap' auto parts would have the MPFI along with the harness cuz I doubt I'll find that at the car graveyard.

but what is your take on a good ecu to use.

Also on a side note....will 1990 integra front seats fit without mod's. I'm also looking to paint it so far I have heard 1300 to redo the same colour 1600 to change it. Is that about right.

OH yes I forgot to ask.....What car has a MPFI for my sohc zc on vtech?
