obviously check for rust everywhere.. especially under the car/ 1/4 panels .
take it for a ride make sure its smooth and the clutch is good.. good way rev it and drop it. owner may nto like it but if the tires squeel ur good.. if it jsut revs u may need a new clutch down the way. my buddy just bought a car and got riped off...
so get the VIN be for hand go to the dmv buy the used car package and get all ur previous owner info and what not.
give her a nice redline have a buddy watch the exhaust for blue smoke.. or any kind of smoke.
im sure more people will jump in and let u know wat else but thats all i can think of
Good Luck

You need to do TONS of research, or rather... your only spending 3 grand.. just bite the bullet and fix whatever needs be. You will learn alot when spending less on a car!

alright thanks for your replies. my dad's buddy is selling an old car of his, its all stock but its a 94 EG 5 speed with around 170km on it. But i still have a few more questions..lol. I was wondering where i should buy bodykits cuz i really wanted to sup it up with a full body kit + a spoiler(but from what i heard, ppl told me not to get spoilers because apparently, its easy to get stolen). but aside from that, yeah i was also looking if i should do a custom paint either yellow or orange and if my insurance wud rise if i did. thanks

^^ Why are you recommending him such modded up cars?
IMO for his first car he should buy something totally stocks. Drive it, get used to it. It will be super reliable and he can do some basic maintenance himself to learn on cars. THEN he can mod it up and learn from there.
Buying a TURBO Civic or a swapped one (who knows if it was hacked up) espeically when it's "as is" is just asking for trouble IMO. Not only will it be too fast, it will probably re unreliable and require a ton of work. It will probably be a money pit as well. HORRIBLE first cars IMO...

I'm not saying it's not a good deal for the right person, but regardless, for a first time buyer I wouldn't recommend a turbo car because th ere are THAT much more things that can go wrong with it. Who knows if he cut corners when doing it, or used cheap knock off parts that will break. It's just too much to jump into, IMO, for a first car, with no other experience with cars..

hmm thanks for the replies. yeah martin ill check that out. im actually getting a fully stock car from my dad's friend. its a 94 eg 5 speed so im looking to just ride it for a while and then tune it up afterwards. I was just thinking of tuning it up, bodykit wise then go into the internal stuff after a while.
