So Im starting to dig VW again

I was a big VW follower before my old Passat ended up costing me more in repairs then what I paid for it. I switched to Honda back in 2000 and I havent looked back.

Until now...
GTI MKVI

Scirocco

Blue Sports concept

VW questionable reliability aside, I think Im in love again.

Thats what a warranty is for and no car is perfect.

I really love my 07 Si, but even it has its issues, just like any new car.

I love VW's interiors. They are so nicely done compared to Honda. The one and only real issue I have with my car is the interior. Honda really cheaped out of the interior of this one. The plastics scratch very easily, the fit and finish isnt that great, lots of rattles and I just recently had the drivers seat rebuilt. The bottom cushion was falling apart and the alcantera/suede material on the seat and armrest are worn out already.

Unless Honda spends some time and effort on the interior quality of the next Civic, I wont be buying another.

Thats the same with my Passat. It was never anything minor where I could still drive the car or fix it myself, but always something major that would put it on a tow truck.

I do like VWs too, but for me their reliability problems have always kept me away. I am not sure what you mean when you say that there are problems with the 07 Civic. I have one, and I don't have any issues with it. The interior is excellent, the seats are great, the suede is not faded neither on the doors, nor on the seats or armrest.

I find the dashboard to look very nice and futuristic on the Civic, but I do agree that VW dashboards look nice too, especially since they use the dark blue and red colours nowadays.

Mechanically they have been great, but I feel the fit and finish and quality of the interior is lacking. Of the 3 8th Gen Civics Ive had, 06 EX, 06 Si and now the 07 Si, everyone of them has had issues with the seats and interior panels. 2 new seat frames, 2 new covers, 1 new foam bottom, 1 new door panel, 1 door armrest, 1 centre armrest and a few rattles. The interor layout is great, the seats are pretty comfy (lumbar would be nice though), it just doesnt hold up to wear and tear very well.

Holy crap! What the heck do you do in your car??? Just sit in there and beat the hell out your seats and doors?...or maybe I don't want to know...

I've never heard of so many interior parts needing to be replaced on any car of that age (2-3yrs). It must be just your car, cause I have never heard anyone else have so many issues with the interior of other peoples 8th gen civics. It's unusual for there to be that many problems with those components in one vehicle. You must be rough on your equipment.

Clearly you have never worked at a dealership before then because I can tell you from experience that this kind of stuff is normal for new vehicles these days. I mean this is nothing compared to the amount of warranty work done on some new vehicles when it comes to look fitting interior panels and the like. You should go to a lexus dealership sometime and see how many various interior parts get replaced on a daily basis under warranty due to squeek and rattle conditions.

That convertible looks sick. I've thought about buying a vw, but too many stories from people with problems with them. I've consider them many times over the years, however just haven't pushed myself to get one.
