So CADA wants to ban RHD vehicles.

This has been an ongoing issue with these Canadian car agencies (CADA), saying to the government of Canada that RHD vehicles are unsafe.

What are your thoughts ?

jdm_416 25-Oct-2010 11:44 PM

the guy they interviewed said it best

"its a freedom of choice and i think canadians deserve that"

personally ive been in a rhd car before (heres a vid of us drifting lol) YouTube - RX7 drifting
and there was no difference so to say they are dangerous is ridiculous

Mugenn.civic.09 26-Oct-2010 12:02 AM

......oh...and posting vids of **** like that can get you arrested....just a heads up.

jdm_416 26-Oct-2010 12:59 AM

chill guys i wasnt driving...i would never drive my civic like that and yeah i guess i kinda did prove the ban point...but you know what people say civic drivers are reckless drivers just because a small group are...

Xscorpio 26-Oct-2010 02:29 PM

i dont see any problem with them, except for turning left maybe?

though i am not fan of RHD

ol Dusty 26-Oct-2010 02:50 PM

I always wanted a RHD CRX or Civic. I think the real problem is that people out in places like BC, RHD vehicles are everywhere! Not just cause they're RHD either. It's because you can import a used JDM car and have it be in great condition rather then buying a car from a local used or even new car dealer. It's a large amount of money going out and nothing coming in as far as the gov is concerned. They just need to find a glorified reason to tell the public.

Thats how I see it anyway.

Hugehumongo 13-Nov-2010 07:28 PM

i think RHD drive cars are cool. wouldnt mind haveing an EJ1 RHD. i would like a 93 supra as LHD though for some reason

Robb 13-Nov-2010 08:05 PM

From my experience, almost all of my customers have no 'issues' when test driving our RHD cars for the first time...

openshot 16-Nov-2010 07:35 PM

there is nothing wrong with it. the differents is the steering wheel is on the right. i wanna get a RHD eg.

The insurance companies and New car dealers are in bed with each other !!

This is a classic case of protectionism and nothing to do with safety !

New car dealers want to protect thier business as they feel threatened by the low mileage 15+ year old vehicles coming from Japan. ::rollseyes::

never thought of that good point

AcuratePaul 18-Nov-2010 07:59 PM

I think this is non sense as RHD vehicles are the same for safety as any other LHD as Robb stated that is a very good point on why they don't want them in canada anymore.

As for turning left yes it's less safe then normal but it could be done and safe.

How many times have you seen people struggling to turn left with a normal USDM car cuz they don't know how to line themselves up properly. I think it's stupid and it won't really pass to be honest or it won't stay for long.

Robb 18-Nov-2010 08:03 PM

The gov't should concentrate more on driver training and education, before they think of banning any vehicle import !
It's easier to obtain a drivers licence in this country, than it is to buy something from a vending machine !!

wrong!

japanese cars are NOT built to the same standards of canadian cars.
they might look the same but are far from it...

ie bumper re-bars, lights, inner structure re-inforcements etc...

MyVtecGoesBWAH 07-Dec-2010 04:26 PM

i know as of jan 1st 2011 my girlfriends insurance company and the insurance company im with will no longer insure RHD. im guessing others will soon to follow.

It's true, that's why you have to wait for skylines to be 15 years old to import them. Certain cars like them and the Evo have the intercooler where the rebar should be for north american standard regarding bumper height. There were also other things like rebar in doors that later was considered a bad safety option because they can be hit hard enough to break off and rip through the car into the passengers. Not all cars were victim to this but some it was an issue. Even some school buses had this issue.

TD Canada Trust wouldn't insure RHD when I asked about that when I called years ago asking for quotes on a few different cars to help decide on my first car.

Really you wanna be different, buy a McLaren F1. It's not RHD or LHD...

MHD? CHD?
