Question should i follow the dealer's recommended maintenance?

i just need some opinions here...

i now have almost 15K and 1K more ti'll my 2nd service...now my question is - do i really have to follow the recommended maintenance @ dealerships? i mean the car is still brand new and i don't think it'll need much inspections such tie rods, steering gear box, driveshaft, suspension. is it possible for me to just do an oil change and just bring it to my own mechanic(my mechanic only charges me $10 for oil change as long as i provide my oil+oil filter)

plus it'll cost me $175.88+ taxes for my 2nd service, which is gonna be very hard for me now that i don't have any job @ the moment

this what includes on my 2nd service->Type B(this is way overpriced man!!!)
* Replace engine oil and filter.*
* Service front and rear brakes.
* Rotate tires**, inspect for wear and adjust pressure.
* Lubricate all hinges, locks, and latches with multipurpose grease.
* Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
* Inspect suspension components.
* Inspect driveshaft boots.

thanks in advance guys

^ how did you inspect all those that needs to get inspected according to the recommended maintenance?
like:
# Inspect tie rod ends, steering gear box and boots.
# Inspect suspension components.
# Inspect driveshaft boots.
# Inspect parking brake adjustments.
# Inspect brake hoses and lines (including ABS).
# Inspect cooling system hoses and connections.
# Inspect exhaust system.
# Inspect fuel lines and connections.
# Inspect the underbody.

following the recommended maintenance basically means that if anything goes wrong the dealership will upkeep any warranty claims.

now this is getting annoying...all they have to do on top of the oil change is to inspect...just look and inspect and they charge to much for that!!! and if something is broken - then there goes another money to be waisted...why can't i inspect it or my mechanic?

ask your dealship if there are other places you are allowed to take it to that they recommend...and for the warrenty you have to get some card signed/stapped and mail it in (i think that is how it goes) that way you still get to keep/update your warrenty

hey RJ
when I had to do that service i was like "WTF" cuz its way overpriced.
In the end I just did it because of warranty issues.
basically if u dont do it and have a problem later on, they can blame it on you and say "well u didnt do our reccomended service so tough luck" if they wanna be bitches, whether they will be bitches i dunno, but i just did it because i didnt want problems
yea its a worthless waste of money, but i just did it to basically have a trouble free experience with them.

Try asking doug (from LEMC) what you should do, he use to work for a honda dealership.

i work at honda and here's my opinion if you want to get your car serviced there. follow every other service and every service you skip just do an oil change. it'll save you some cash.

also Type b and c are exactly the same.

if you follow the maintenance schedule your car will drive great but it's not bad to be smarter about it!! ive seen people with under 30k leave with over 1 grand in maintenance

if you want to get it done elsewhere as long as you have a reciept/invoice of that service, warranty shouldnt be that big of a problem except on larger and more expensive issues where it leaves dealerships hands. it doesnt hurt to slip into the dealership once in a while and do an oil change and some small stuff either...
hope that helps

rj i have people come ask for oil change and skip their b service all the time. id say 75% of customers dont do their first b service which is ok... unless you have an 03+ accord.....

if you have a civic, id say do your c at ~32k and your d at ~48k... everything else just do an oil change. good thing if you have 04/05 civic i very very rarely have any of those cars coming back for warranty issue. 06 civic... different story.

the advisor will always recommend stuff to you, some you should do some are just a waste of money (but doesnt hurt to do) it is his/her job. Note which advisor is the chillin guy/girl too (like me lol) and it'll probably benefit you down the road.
