Short shifters
Hey all,
I'm looking to buy a short shifter. Just wondering what are the good brands out there. I was looking into getting the Skunk2 because I really like the ****. I also heard Buddy club was good. Anyone know of anymore?

I had a Skunk2 in my 98 and I had no complaints. Fit and finish were excellent and it performed flawlessly. However, brand new they are expensive.
TWM makes a good shifter and they are available in different throws and heights.
Honda Civic Short Shifters and Shift ***** - TWM Performance
A few things to remember though. Cheaper aluminum shifters have been known to break. I think cynical had one break on him. Also, they are known to cause extra wear on your syncros because often you can shift faster then the syncros can do their job.
Not a bad mod, but I would also change the tranny fluid and swap the OEM rubber bushings for something from Energy Suspension.

I would think Skunk2 would be on the same level as B&M, they are both great products.
I meant like I don't understand why people get no name / ebay / "Ractive" shifters for like $50 which is junk when you can buy an authentic B&M or Skunk 2 shifter for $100 brand new, and you have an actual quality product than some cheap junk in your car. I would grab the dual bend model, not the single bend if you have a choice btw.
Make sure you get shifter bushings from energy suspension when you change your shifter as well, makes a big difference and they're like $15.

The shifter or the bushings? I got my shifter used on kijiji, I'm sure there are lots of place where you can get it thought, but I'm not sure where. I know eBay has then brand new for 100ish shipped, but maybe you can find one locally. Hopefully someone knows a decent place to get them for a good price.
Regarding the bushings, pacific mall is pretty much the only place that has them locally. You can get them online for like 9.99 USD but with shipping and conversion it comes to like $20 or so, so it's cheaper to just go to any car store in pacific mall, they will order it for you and it's liek 15-20.

That's what you want, part # 16.1102

cool. some dude on the forum is selling his. I called him up and I'm gonna pick it up this week. thanks a lot! I saw the B&M one for sale but wasn't sure if it was good. I was gonna get the skunk2 but I'd rather get this cuz its cheaper lol. Do you know the threading on it? Is it 1.5 or 1.25? I'm taking about for the ****

I'm not sure, but my stock shift **** fit on my B&M so it's the same as stock.
Is it a dual bend? If you want to see what it will feel like before buying you can take my car for a spin, I have the dual bend with the ES bushings... I'm in the west end of Toronto though, so I don't know if that's far away from you or not..

wow that's a really generous offer thanks but it that won't be necessary. I had a short shifter on my old car but I cheaped out on it before. If it fits the stock civic shift **** it should be 1.5. thanks again. I'm gonna get the dual bend cuz i need it closer to me

Most aftermarket s/s will have the **** sit about 1" lower. My Skunk2 did. Also, some shift ***** are countersunk, like a Skunk2 or TWM **** and can be screwed down a bit lower. Just remember, the height of the shifter really doesn't make it a "short" shifter, but it refers more to the shortening of the shift throws.
The ES bushings are made from polyurethane, which is much stiffer then the OEM rubber bushings that can wear-out over time. The ES bushings will make the shifter feel firmer and remove any play in the shift rods.
The bushings can be purchased from Performance Improvements and most shops (OptionJDM, Speedtech, JRP, etc) can get you a shifter.
