Ya iv'e done it a few times but trust me you will grind a few times before doing it. Guys in transports do it but its harder than it looks. Its all precise timing.

I know that on my 2000 Si you can drive "clutch optional" if you want to. It's not that hard but I wouldn't try to hard to learn it if you don't get it right away. All you have to do to get out of gear smoothly is to pull slightly on the shifter while you lift the gas, at one throttle point there will be no load on the gears and it will slip out nicely.

To upshift, you pause slightly to let the rpm drop and then gently push the shifter towards the gear you want, it'll go when it's ready or it won't go at all, don't try forcing it.

To downshift you goose the gas pedal to get your rpms up to where they should be and then use the same gentle pushing action as in downshifting. Downshifting is way, way harder than upshifting as you have to raise the rpm to the right value for the new gear and your speed so make sure you don't try forcing it, if it doesn't work just use the clutch.

I give this information because someone asked. If you leave your tranny on the 401 trying to do it don't come back to me about it, unless you want me to laugh at you. Because I will, a lot.

Before the SiR I had a 2001 Civic Si. I drove it for 2 1/2 years and put 115,000 km on it (It was used as a work vehicle). I was young and stupid and I shifted it at redline every single time I changed gears. And never had a single problem with that car.
