Selling car with fake odomiter reading
#22
I had to swap out my speedometer because it stopped working. The mileage on the new odometer was waaaaaaaay more than what mine was at, so I opened them both up and swapped the odometers out so I retained my correct odometer reading.
You could potentially take apart the speedo, adjust the odometer to the proper reading and then put it all back together again. On 4th gens it's dead simple, on 5th gens like mine it's a bit more challenging (have to re-calibrate the speedometer needle), and I have no knowledge of how easily it's done on 6th or 7th gens (I understand 7th gens use digital odometers, therefore making it nearly impossible to fake the mileage).

If you tell them that the cluster was swapped, then do some math to give the buyer an estimated number, you'll be fine.

even if you do swap or did swap to the old one, u will be off no matter what.
so it doesnt really matter, like someone mentioned estimated KMs is nice.
lots of people are doing it.. so no worries. and i bet alot of people are selling like it too.....

car parts aren't all brain surgery...if you were to drop the cluster and it were to open up, and the km readings were to magically adjust themselves to the number you're looking for then you wouldn't have a problem anymore...
