I had to swap out my speedometer because it stopped working. The mileage on the new odometer was waaaaaaaay more than what mine was at, so I opened them both up and swapped the odometers out so I retained my correct odometer reading.

You could potentially take apart the speedo, adjust the odometer to the proper reading and then put it all back together again. On 4th gens it's dead simple, on 5th gens like mine it's a bit more challenging (have to re-calibrate the speedometer needle), and I have no knowledge of how easily it's done on 6th or 7th gens (I understand 7th gens use digital odometers, therefore making it nearly impossible to fake the mileage).

id like to do that considering when i had to swap my odometer when it stopped working, the new one is around 50000 km less than what the car actually has.

That's exactly what you have to do. When they replace your speedo at the dealership the mileage has to be calculated and documented for future reference. The ministry documents mileage as well but only the mileage that you give them.

very easy todo
