A scary moment

Since my cv boot was split in half, i decided it would be a good idea change my axle on the weekend. After a long day in the garage i figured it all out, got the new axle in, and put every thing (lca, stablizer bar etc.) back together, and carefully tightening them to the specifiied torque. Double checked everything, lowered the car and cleaned up. Took the car for a test drive and everything was great.

Today, I put the old axle in the box and took it back for casting. Halfway to ct, I heard a clickin noise that was speed dependant and the whole car was shakin. I'm thinking ****, i didn't install the axle properly. It gets louder and louder until its easily twice as loud as my engine noise. I rolled down the windows and realized the noise was on the driver side, but i changed the passenger side axle. I was thinking it must be the stabilizer bar. I pull over, put the four ways on and take a look at everything. Nothing seems out of place and the stabilizer bar is on properly.

Well anyways, the moral of the story... ALWAYS tighten your lugnuts with a torque wrench after doin your work. They managed to wobble themselves loose after a bit of drivin.

You should consider yourself very very lucky you noticed that just in time.

Good thing you found the source of the problem and fixed it

You might want to have real hard look at the threads of both stud and nut. A loose wheel can bugger both up pretty bad.

One bolt left or one rim left?

Let's hope that it's the former and not the latter!!

The guy who did my springs forgot to do that too (Thank you very much Scott), he just handtightened the lugs. My wheel came off, luckily I was going like 10kph when it happened and the rim just landed on the brake disc, bent the heat shield, thats about it.

I'm pretty surprised loose wheel nuts can make such a loud noise, glad I noticed the problem.

its not the wheel nuts that make the noise, its the rim wobbleing and hitting the wheelnuts of and on...
