Rims/Hubcaps

I bought my Honda civic to get me to college. Not much more, once I am done college, I am getting a new civic or an accord coupe depending on how well the job I get pays. (During school, I will make 40 000/year, once I am out, that jumps up to 60 - 70 / year. [I am basing this off a friend who did the exact same courses and stuff as I am doing, as well as the same apprenticeship]) Anyways, the only thing I dislike about this civic is the rims.. its just gross, stock honda rusted to hell rims. I think honda has the worst stock rims on the planet. Our '97 CRV's rims rusted like mad too. Anyways, I got CLR rim cleaner and that got alot of the rust off. Its been a month now and they have rusted right up again. I need 1 of 2 things. Cheap, but good looking rims or stock honda bolt on hubcaps (cheap!). I currently have no substantial amount of money until November. Damn this sucks..

They are steelies. Would getting some silver trimclad work as well? Because I have black steelies for my protege5 in the winter and they make the car look so damn ugly. I prefer a sliver colour. I will get nice rims for it, maybe some mags, but I cannot afford em right now, so its either paint, or hubcaps that are in my range. The problem with hubcaps are that store bought ones fall off way to easliy and people have a tendancy to walk off with em. Honda stock hubcaps look alright but they also bolt on with the steel rim. People cannot walk off with them.

I agree on the silver color... paint the stock steelies silver if you got no hubcaps. Never ever buy hubcaps anywhere but the dealership... all aftermarket ones are complete garbage.

For winter use, I love the look of black steelies on a lowered Civic. Just my .02

Ok, I think I will goto Crappy tire and get some trimclad (silver.) for the rims. Is there any way I should prepare the rims for painting? Take em off? Take rubber off (im not sure how to do that)?. If i take em all off do I have to do em 1 at a time with the jack or what is something I could use under all the lift points?

Pick your own colour, then paint it.

Easiest way to paint (since you don't have the machine to separate tires from rims), is to get a large sheet of paper, then cut a 14" (or 13") hole and place it over the tires and spray paint. Before you paint, make sure you clean the rims.

And you can make roughly 40G while in school? That's pretty decent.

I have some CLR rim cleaner, but it says do not use that on surfaces to be painted or painted surfaces. What would work alright then to clean the rims up?

nothing chemically... lots of sanding and preparation will ensure a durable finish. If you skimp here, you'll end up having **** looking rims by next spring. Get some acetone or other wax remover from a body shop. WalMart has wheel paint too I think!
