removing heat shield on 98 Civic
The heat shield on my car's exhaust is rattling and I want to remove it..In
other cars (non-Honda) I have owned, it was simply a matter of prying it off
(using a hockey stick!)..Is it just as easy with the Civic or will I need to
take it to a garage and have them put it on a hoist?
I just came from a garage where I had an oil change and the guy wanted $40
to remove it!! I told him that he could go f*ck himself!
Thanks,

lay on your back and take a look at the extent of the damage....1. is the heat shield really rusted and flopping around when you tap it...2. is the bolt that holds it in place still there
if it's rusted well enough, you can just pull it off with a lil elbow grease...but, if the one bolt that holds it in place is still there, take a pair of hedge clippers or *what we have in the shop*, "the jaws of life" and cut one side to free it from the bolt...then it should come right off....one thing tho...be careful. With rusty things, there are most likely sharp or jagged edges so, becareful when pulling it off...wear a pair of gloves to be certain...it will also give you some grip too.
