Remote Car Starters Causing fires? Fact? or Fiction?

I'm looking at getting a compustar remote starter/alarm installed. I know a bunch of people who has them installed and use it on a regular basis and never had any issues. I have also heard a lot about the starters causing fires. Just wondering how accurate that is? And what might be the reasons why it has happened.

thanks in advanced!

i have a compustart in my civic, and no issues so far, have had it for couple of months now. the fire issue might have been related un-proper install. as long as you get it installed professionally i think you should be OK, unless the installer is crack head.

I have never heard of them causing fires. Any links to this info?

Ive been using remote car starters in my vehicles for over 6 years now without and problems, Ive actually been using the same compustar unit for over 3 years without any issues to speak of. As someone else had mentioned the fires were most likely linked to improper install or something like that.

If it's not installed by Audio Heaven or one of the other site sponsors, fire may occur...

:biggrin1: j/k about the fire.

LOL ... trust me I'll be getting it professionally installed, I personally wouldn't want to mess around with all that wiring.

I've just heard about the possibility of remote starters causing fires through word of mouth, that's why I wanted to see what you all thought or knew about it.

Never heard of them causing fires..

but if they did, it would be as the others have said and they were installed wrong.

any electrical device installed in a car can cause a fire if not installed properly.

Make sure the installer is qualified

I've had a compustar 2way alarm/starter for over 6 years now and my car has never caught on fire.

Been doing starters and alarms for 15 yrs. The problem you talk about is some cheep units do not come with proper fusing and or relay size. This becomes a major problem when something does short. If the wiring or relays are not sized properly they will burn. It is not a common problem and if you have a professional do the install it's not a problem.
