Over time you will have to clean the oil catch can. Also depending on your setup, will determin the frequency of how often you have to clean it.
Pulling out the ac will not make a big difference. If you want to try it, you can pull the belt of and see. The only thing is, you will loose weight in the bay, and less weight=quicker acceleration.
But if your ac is still working, leave it.

It will save you some weight and free up some hp, but removing it doesnt add hp. Running the compressor causes drag on the engine because it takes power to run the a/c. Removing the a/c compressor would be similar to adding lighter underdrive pulleys.

Are those catch can things even legal?

the catch cans are legal as long as they are not dumping everything out the can. A catch can eliminates the blow-by, and as long as its a vented can, meaning it releases the pressure yet trapping all the crap in it, I'm almoust 100% its legal.
Plus its needed for a forced induction motor. Yet OP doesn't have that I would assume so on a stock motor it does not do anything. [i/h/e is still stock imo]
