Question about SiR
Hey,
I just bought a 2000 SiR and was driving it on the highway the other day and noticed that at 140km/h in 5th it was hovering around 4,500 rpms. Is that normal? The car feels like it needs a 6th gear for coasting. Also, do GSR leathers swap into it directly? Overall I love this car. Picked it up for 10k with 100,000kms on it. |
dont worry, it's normal
SiR likes to rev hence the high gear ratios. 6th gear would be awesome but i dont think they'd put one into a Civic. |
lol...welcome to the world of short gear ratios...I wish every honda I have owned had a 6th gear, its so damn annoying to be be cruising with the engine revving away and exhaust bellowing throughout the car...when I do a motor swap I'm for sure adding a dx 5th gear or somethin
|
Yes, like the guys above said, It is normal for a B series engine to rev so high.
I was also thinking why they didn't give us the 6th gear. it would make things so much better on the highway. But, even with those high revs on the highway the car is still pretty quiet, being all stock motor. As for your integra seats question. I think they are NOT a direct bolt on...I believe, three out of four bolts will bolt on directly. Someone correct me if I am wrong. If you search the forums, or even better go to honda-tech.com I am sure you will find tons of stuff on this. Anyway, SIR's are nice cars and fun to drive. You should post some pictures. And don't forget, 100 000 km, your timing belt is due soon. |
if you go to honda-tech.com, make sure you search cause if you don't and just ask you will get flamed
|
MUHAHAHAH.... thats the exact same thing i was wondering when i picked up my SIR...
|
Frig, 4,500 at 140 would be nice.
5,000 @ 130kp/h with my SiR tranny. :( |
yah but what cluster are you using?????

Don't generalize all Hondas are high revving. My SiR is about 4 grand at 120 but my other car, okay it's not a Honda, it's an Acura with 5 AT, revs at 2 grand at the same speed. Mind you it also has twice the displacment as my Civic.
I sometimes wish for a 6th gear but the likely reason, it wasn't put in was 1) the car was not meant to be a highway cruiser and 2) at lower revs, there wouldn't be enough torque to accelerate necessitating a downshift. I find at 120 kph and in 5th, my car still pulls reasonably well. |
GSR seats
will not bolt in and require a minor mod for them to drop in .... the inner seat rail with the seat belt portion needs to be removed and replaced with your SiR inner seat rail .... its that easy ! |

totally normal revving there.
b16a needs to rev. if it wasn't around there, when you needed power and pushed the pedal...nothing would happen.. |

Luv them short gear ratios , you could actually still
feel the car pull in 5th gear , awsome! way cool...... |
For the seats all u gotta do is cut the inner rails into a U hole. Then the big bolt will fit right on, holding things nice and snug.
|
The car has short gear ratios, it revs high. And yeah the seats should swap right in.
