A Project Erase Question!

i know a lot of us dont actually inform our insurance companies about our mods such as rims.. body kits.. sound systems and etc.... but a discussion tonight between a few friends about that new program brought up that police are actually gonna take down ure insurance company.. will call them up.. and tell them about your mods so that insurance goes up causing a lot to remove mods...

thats crazy!!?... my insurance is high as it is... i dunno man! someone tell me it aint true....

*stock cars racing... just great... now we're all in heat!

imported_gatherer 04-Jun-2004 05:50 AM

why wouldn't it be ops have tryed everything else to eliminate street racing and nothing has worked... it's time they did hit people's pocket books

punkindrublic 04-Jun-2004 06:10 AM

its just another cash grab... like gatherer said nothing has worked and nothing will work... people will race scooters if they have to

imported_i-WERKS 04-Jun-2004 09:35 AM

I'm not sure but when I got my insurance, they asked me if there are any modifications and are they over $1000 or under $1000. They didn't go into details as to what kind of mods they are.

imported_Old_skool4g 04-Jun-2004 11:15 AM

honestly all thios talk about pulling us over jus cuz we have civics, and makin us get rid of our mods, is really pissing me off, im sure i say this on behalf of alot of ppl on this site that modding my car to me, is a hobby, i love doing it. I dont race on the street and i dont plan to. Ive been to the track once, and i loved it. The environment is wicked, u meet alot of kool ppl and nice cars. While on the street ur racing other ppl that most likely have a grudge against u and fights could happen, then u have cops coming after u blah blah...and i still dont undertand why ppl STILL street race. Honestly if this whole catching up with insurance companies is tru, and i hafta put my car back to stock, i seriously dont know wut ill do with myself. Might as well jus hang myself

bbarbulo 04-Jun-2004 11:48 AM

If I am forced to give up this sport, I'll just take up another sport.... like crack-dealin, or burglerizing, perhaps even bum-hunting with a nickle plated 4-4

maybe I'll start up a little chemisty lab with all the money I save from not modding cars

bbarbulo 04-Jun-2004 11:49 AM

Oh, and if you get heat from insurance, just take liability coverage. They never have to see your car if you just take liability.

imported_Old_skool4g 04-Jun-2004 11:57 AM

^^^ oh tru thats wut i have....its all good then. but still, gaurenteed cops will be pulling me over. yesterday i over heard a cop talkin to sum guy in a stang which he pulled over, guessing it wuz for noise pollution cuz the cops said "yah i jus hate those guys in the little civics" i guess the guys in stangs must be sucking the cops off....cuz guess wha.. he let the guy off

is this true??? if it is im ****ed.. cops are allowed to contact insurance company????

to eliminate street racing get rid of the DONSVIEW army base, that is used as a CHRYSLER car lot now, and build a track for free, and then u will have no street racing...for god sake,...

shlammed 05-Jun-2004 01:50 PM

#1 ^^^ that's not gonna happen
#2 for your insurance company to ever find out about anything the cop would have to write you a ticket for all the crap...he can't just say he's gonna call your insurance because that's not proof of anything. Then when you get the tickets...take it to court and tell em you took everything off.

The perfect spot for a track!

Last year a cop said he was going to notify my insurance company about my modifications. Never heard anything since then and my insurance was never affected.

Probably another scare tactic

mugencivic 05-Jun-2004 05:24 PM

does anyone know for sure if cops can/do contact your insurance company? cuz my step-dad (a mechanic) said that they can and do, but i think he's just trying to scare me into not modding my car

punkindrublic 05-Jun-2004 05:41 PM

they can do whatever they want... but remember they are always serving and protecting us.... i know i feel safer with stock suspension then mine now... cause its common sense that better handling = dangerous :nods:

at least i dont live in toronto so i rarely even see cops on the roads

punkindrublic 05-Jun-2004 05:44 PM

another thing you can say to your insurance company is responce to a cop calling and tell them your car is modded... just say the parts you bought were cheaper then oem replacements which 90% of the time is true... they can't really jack your rates cause your car doesn't really have an increased value... but then again car insurance is more screwed then paris hilton so who knows

It does happen. They started doing it on a large scale last year. They do not need to charge you to call your insurance company.

Their call to the insurance company has no weight in law, but it does give the insurance company a heads up that one of their clients may have misrepresented their vehicle or their use of the vehicle. The insurance company then has the option of calling you in for a vehicle inspection, or going further with private investigators to look into how you use your car, as is their right under the terms of your insurance contract.

They can jack your rates if your car has increased performance capabilities as a result of you installing "cheaper than oem" parts. They can also cancel your coverage if you have modified the vehicle past what is considered reasonable by your insurance company. State Farm, I believe, has an absolute prohibition on modifications.

The same as anything else.... if you, knowing the rules of whatever situation you happen to be in, choose to go ahead regardless and "cheat" on those rules, you deserve whatever you get when you get caught.
