"In the last six years, 29 people have been fatally injured in the Greater Toronto Area as a result of street racing activities. In addition, excessive speed continues to be the leading contributing factor in fatal collisions."

To date this year we have had how many shooting deaths? 37? IN THE PAST YEAR! Not to knock the prevention of people street racing but maybe they should created a group called "eliminate" and do something about the shootings instead.

i think they already started a project to elimiate gang groups.....
i recall reading the stars like a week or 2 weeks ago, they had a raid and laid over 100 charges towards a group of gang.....here is a citypulse link: http://www.pulse24.com/News/Top_Story/20050916-003/page.asp

in the stars, there were more detail because they mentioned the number of estimated gang group in GTA and surrounding area... i recall the number to be over 50 groups...

i think cops are actually easier on car enthusiasts after the summer is over... its just summer is a prime time for street races etc.

and that project e.r.a.s.e. is repost already...

yea this is so stupid they have more cops looking for cars and to keep up with their speeding ticket monthly budget, then ppl getting shot every week.

Yes speeding is bad and it should be taken care of, but what has happened this past summer shoting and stabing every week is really a sad situation.

That was just one example, I guess my main point is, the amount of time they concentrate on street racing can be directed towards something else. All I see happening is cars being pulled over for what they think is illegal mods. Not to sure on this, but when was the last time you heard about any reports of street racing going out of control, as a matter of fact, any street racing at all or victoms of it? There is so much more going on that needs attention and the fact that this keeps getting brought up is ridiculous.

I agree with you for the most part.

However, one thing to keep in mind: shootings are mostly targeted, and contained... What I mean by that, a certain person is marked to be killed and it is done out of sight, out of mind, generally to someone who is not a model citizen to begin with.

Street racing puts the public at risk, it is done on public roads, perhaps with numerous other unrelated vehicles around, pedestrians on the sidewalks, etc..

That is the main point of differentiation in those 2 cases for me.

Good point, but like I posted after, that was one example. There are other things they could be doing or concentrating on more. I think its a good program but sometimes I the way they go about preventing it is bogus.

there is a gangs and guns task force for the gang shootings happening in toronto. we only have ourselves to blame for the unwanted attention from police. how many time have you seen a modified import or modified import lookalike weeving threw traffic and speeding excessively? i know volvo driving soccer moms and suv's all do it, but we make ourselves much easier to identify as a group because of body kits/loud exhaust/neons and fast and furious sure as hell didnt help. what that link didnt say is that andrea was the wife of a york regional police officer. im good friends with her little sister and went to the funeral.

I say stop it all...

I have been in a car when someone was "racing" and its not fun, its scarey. I told him to stop ASAP! And he did. I explained to him how friggen scarey this was, if someone walks out in front or a car cuts him off (which isn't rare) then we are dead and probably those people too... they have tracks for that kind of stuff. I think this was a good thread and more people should be aware of what its doing.

Violence will never stop with guns, until the drugs are gone, and the gang violence is gone.

Again, not to knock what they are doing and no disrespect to the person in the link, but to respond to your examples, I see more minivans and sedans weaving through traffic, speeding, going through red light, I could go on. Everyone speeds, but you can't just sit there and target one group of people thinking they all speed.

We are enthusiasts, some more, some less. Yes you are right, that some of us bring it on ourselves by modding to the extreme, but you cannot generalize and say any modded car speeds or races.

your right there are more mini vans and sedans weaving threw thraffic compared to moded cars but there are also alot more of them around. its not targeting for speeding its unsafe cars. ive been pulled over had my car inspected they found nothing wrong and off i went. why did this happen? cuz some of you idiots chop your springs, have rims/tires that rub and mod your cars unsafely and it reflects badly on the rest of us. all you have to do is keep your car legal and respect the laws. i hear what your saying. i have the full body kit big wing lowered oversized 18" rims full exhaust intake blah blah blah. been pulled over alot only got 1 ticket for speeding 10 over when i was doing 20 over and taht was before any of the mods. and i drive 200km to work and back travel 400, 404 and 401 andbeen pulled over alot

As long as polices are doing their job, I have nothing to complain nor should I worry about. Let the professionals do what they are trained to do.

And you are right also, it only takes one to make it worse for the rest of us. But can you imagine, the amount of cars that may be on the road that are not modded, just your everyday car that are also unsafe and on the road as well? And they don't get inspected as much as modded cars do.

No easy answer.

And as far as my car, the biggest mod I have is my short shifter, my biggest project for the engine mod is to flush my rad!

the OPP have blitz's on long weekends on the 400 series highways to try and elimenate these cars. i would rather see a cert done on everycar over 5 years old then an emissions test

In that case, I think people should be tested for their license as well every so often, it's not always the car............and like you, I drive to work everyday, drop off the wife and have to deal with the idiot's on the road, and it's amazing to see what goes on. It gets to the point that you just get use to it and fluff it off, cause if you don't, you will get serious driving stress.
