ok, i'm planning to buy a car form a private seller but don't know how it works! and i don't have my own plate either!

i don't know when am i suppsed to pay for the car? am i suppused to pay him when i got a deal with him or got the car or got my owener ship! and how does it work with insurance because i heard that you need proof of insurace to pick up your ownership! and one more thing how long each step would take!

I would do this...

A document from the dude that he is selling you his car
Register for ownership/insurance (you will need vehicle info)
Pay the dude however you like
Put plates on car
Drive home



Should be all.. Maybe someone can add a few things.

If your not familar with cars, I would also get it the car inspected by a mechanic to check for any major problems.

get a reciept from the guy saying you paid him in full etc. when u get plates u need to show the emissions and safty.
