Oh forget it, why bother start another flame war.
First off, I have driven several SUV's although I have never owned one and never will, so I do have experience driving them. You can put double wishbones and strut bars all you want, it still doesn't make up for the fact that an SUV has a high centre of gravity and thus still won't handle well. As well, the added weight means braking is far worse than most cars, which seems to explain the amount of SUV's involved in accidents when it snows.

Yes my dad owns a 2002 CR-V
Reasons: Traded in old Camry for something a little more capable of weather conditions. The Camry was not able to backout of the driveway easily, that caused a few days off of work (remember the great 199X storm). It could not carry much cargo. More comfort in the 'V, very good mpg, and reliable. Many more but who cares eh.
If you need the extra room, than I have no problem with buying an SUV, but if its because you are afraid of snow and slippery roads and want all wheel drive to save you in bad weather then you are just another person who buys an SUV and doesn't need one. I have owned three different front wheel drive cars since I was 16 and have never once had a problem with snow or getting stuck, even in the big snow storms we have had over the years. IMO a front wheel drive car with good snow tires or even all seasons for that matter is just fine for the winter weather conditions we get in Southern Ontario. Oh well, to each his own, its your money and you can buy what you want.

if you're quoting features like double wishbone suspension you've just fallen prey to the advertising gods, and even then IMO the CRV isn't a full out SUV. Sure i think it looks nice and all but it's not a full out SUV.....

Me? The orginal post from AzimuthX quoted double wishbone suspension. Like I said, none of the suspension stuff is going to solve the SUV's problems considering the true problems are the high centre of gravity and lackluster braking.

I see many people arguing about the suspension but the last time I looked at a '02-'03 CR-V parts book (today, Jan, 10, 2003). It sure looks like Mac struts to me all around. I am not sure about other people's sources. I have seen brochures with wrong information...

Just a comment. I don't really like SUVs either, but you can't really blame manufacturers producing something that consumers want and are willing to pay for. You have to admit it makes business sense. Ask an Acura dealer if they would want to stop selling the MDX? All would say they can't get enough of them. They can't keep them in the show rooms and they make great profit margins on them....

Just my $0.02.

Mark

I agree 100%, thats why there are so many SUV's offered by the different auto makers. Why not capitalize on market demand, regardless of the brains or lack thereof of the people buying them.
