poor man's type-r, need some advice!

I'm trying to build a reliable poor man's type-r, but don't have the $$ to do both head & block at the moment. so I'm planning to build the block this year and build the head next year.

wondering if it would be safe to run the completely stock b16 head, on a gsr block + jdm ITR pistons, for about 1 yr until I can save enough $$ to build the head?

Also wondering if the block needs to be honed & bored in order to compensate the jdm itr pistons, and how much would this normally cost from a decent machine shop?

thanks!

You should be able to run the stock head on the type r block no problem. Getting the block honed would not hurt at all. As for pricing, look around and call some shops, as they will most likely all be different.

^ thanks, how about tuning? do I have to get a tune then get it tuned again next year when I do the head? I was thinking of getting a chipped to spec p28 from phearable.net to get me going untill I'm ready for a real tune. As for the block, I called Gord & got a quote. don't know any other reputable shops to contact..

if alittle tight for cash I thing you would be better inserting type r cams into your GSR head. more power that you will notice, along with a good header and throtle body, intake headers and exaust you should be happy till you get some cash to build.

I have a b16 with a busted block, thats why i decided to go this route.I'll need springs/retainers if I do type-r cams, so decided to go with the gsr cams that I got for free from a friend. no $$ for im, tb, etc. yet so I'm gonna wait till next year when i get skunk2 pro-1's..
