Poll question

Just want to know what you guys think. How many times have you had issues with people that abuse the ability to turn right on a red light? Seems its getting worse and worse and a lot of accidents happening at intersections because someone is trying to beat traffic turning at a red light. Do you think it should be taken away? Would it make things safer? Or just keep it and hope that things get better?

Your thoughts?

Well Double_B, I know they do things differently in Quebec "backwardly" province lol, but here, I'd like to see it as it is with it being legal to make right turns on red lights. I've experienced rush hour traffic in Montreal and with not able to turn on red there backs traffic up the poop shoot. I'm sure MTO/government officials have already racked their brains on this issue, but to keep things running smoothly in the GTA, they shouldn't touch the right turn on red.

I agree with what xray said.
If they make 'turning right on reds' illegal, it would create traffic nightmares (mainly during rush hour).

My vote would be to keep it legal. Driver's just have to be more cautious when making these turns, and the drivers approaching the intersection must also be cautious of the drivers making the right turn.

the problem is that ppl turning right on a red, for some stupid reason, believe they have the right of way when they clearly do not. IT'S A RED LIGHT. if only ppl would check their blind spots for cyclists and pedestrians when turning right on a red AND make sure they stick to the right lane instead of turning directly into the left lane especially when the oncoming traffic has an advanced green.

^Exactly my thoughts as well. I have also had yahoos turn right almost into me on a red as I am completing a left turn on a red (once all the oncoming traffic has finished running their yellows) as the traffic going the other way is just getting their green. I believe that making it illegal is only going to make traffic worse and people are still going to run yellows to make that turn.

btw, what's a tunring??
is that what someone who just had one put in talks like?

"luk, i god a nu tunring"

if so i vote no, a tunring at an intersection should make no difference to the flow or safety of traffic

when I was in drivers ed. way back when I remember my instructor sayin somethin about if your turnin left from a one way street onto another one way street (obviously left being the direction of the street) at a red. what I don't remember tho is if he said you can do this, wich makes sense cuz it's basically like if you were doin this in london or some othe RHD area, or not because were all a bunch of r-tards who apparently can't deal with the normal right on red laws. Can anyone elaborate on this or have I just smoked my self stupid?

Totally agree with Shazza. I have no problems with it. I got confused last time I was in Montreal.

You are both accountable for this. Just bad timing I guess.

I am all for turning right at a red light as long as people actually stop and give the right of way before turning right. I have seen so many times people just drive w/o even stopping through an intersection just because they were making a right turn.

I thought so. There's a few spots downtown along Richmond and Adeliade like this. There is also a weird one at Lakeshore and British Colombia that I'm still not sure of cuz of the lay out.

exactly, a red light, when you're turning red, should be treated kinda like a stop sign i.e. you must stop and let everyone who has the right of way go and turn only when safe to do so and only into the right-most lane.

but i still wouldn't eliminate the right on red allowance b/c, like everyone said, the traffic build up would be intolerable.

and yeah, i didn't realize that this was illegal in montreal and we got pulled over but got away with a warning since we had ontario plates. so now i know. but montreal is special when it comes to driving.

It has to be treated like a stop sign, that's the law.
