For now I found this vid

Your still using the synchros however there is less of load on them. The term double clutching was before the days of synchros in a transmission.
You might want to read up on this:

oh, and well the tranny i was talking about was to do it on a d17 tranny and well that info i got from a tranny shop... so blame them...
and then why would you bother commenting on the synchro part? i was correct... hmmmm... of course you are using it as the discussion was about above... if its being moved its being used or close to along those lines...
man, i hate when people act big behind their keyboards and talk ****... i can be wrong too just as you were when you were BORN!!!

Yeah.. I hate myself because I'm an idiot. I'm not the one who tries to act like they know how to do an input shaft bearing.
I only come on here when I'm stoned, sometimes my comments are a bit harsh lol

yeah man, but i wasn't acting like i know how to "do" an input shaft bearing, it was what was explained to me...
and about the older trannys... people had to use that method to shift because of no synchros... so, now that we have synchros, if you use double clutching for downshifting, you are putting almost no stress/use of your synchros of the newere trannsmissions today... most people, push in the clutch, blip the throttle and let it out, but you are still using your synchros the same, you are almost bettter to just slip it out, other than im sure that wears the clutch more.
next time someone has ****ed snchros, try that method and it will slip in like butter. unless your gears are all ground to ****, but you can really save grinding the **** out of your gears.
anyone know if revving or "blipping" the throttle with the clutch pressed down put any excess wear on the clutch at all?

I use parking brake only, unless I am on a steep slope, or parked on snow/ice without snow tires.
As for downshifting, I apply brake first then just downshift, no need to rev match. I don't usually downshift to pass people on roads, just apply throttle and go.
When I race, I do heel-toe, yes, you need that to carry the exiting speed and avoid the car jerking cause you dont' brake 300 meters before the corner.

Thats the point I was trying to make...
If you down-shift with out rev matching, it puts more stress on the tranny and syncros, and wares the clutch more than if you blip and rev-match while down-shifting...
However, if you just throw it in neutral and use the brakes, you don't ware the clutch at all...agreed with that all along
I'd just rather not depend on my brakes alone 100% of the time....I use em 50% and the engine 50% for braking down to about 2nd gear, then let the brakes do the rest...This way I'm not thrashing on the clutch and tranny by downsifting without rev-matching, and I'm making the brakes last alot longer than if I used them alone all the time..
I'll say it again, everyone has different opinions of what works best for them...drive how you wish...do what ever works best for you...
Now about this double-clutching stuff....these days it's not neccessary at all. modern tranny's with syncros make it so easy to shift quickly the normal way.

Now 'trying' to drop it into R @ 60kph would be interesting to see & hear. Now only if I had a **** box to try this out on. (rubs chin)

There's a lockout so you can't do that.....
And if you did your transmission would be pooched in a matter of a few seconds after, it would grind the **** outta the idler gear and all the little metal chunks would grind everything else away.
