Ordering parts online (domestic / overseas)

I have been thinking, if it would be cheaper to directly order parts from known aftermarket manufacturers, such as Spoon, Buddy Club… etc.

Cause I looked at their price, did the exchange rate, it obviously came out cheaper and I realise there will be shipping cost (but doesn’t the authorised dealers get charged for shipping, too?), and maybe some custom taxes involved, I don’t know.

I mean, money is money, if you can save 50 bucks on a 400 dollars item, why not? Has anyone ordered parts directly from overseas manufacturers? Did you end up pay more then what the stores charge or you did save some?

For instance: Spoon Rear upper strut bar + lower arm bar (rear) + lower arm bar (front) + CF mirrors = 1257.50 CDN (from what I heard), but those parts are around 765.60 CDN if you convert it using the current exchange rate from the price list on Spoon site. Those 4 items shouldn’t weight more then 30lbs so shipping should be reasonable.

True, but the thing is, if I am not in a big hurry (not like I need a new engine to race), I can take all the time I need to wait for the shipment.

But thanks for the advice, I am sorta testing water right now. Because every small amount adds up big...

Time+money=Value

I worry so much about custom and tax. They are brutal.

The thing is, regular dealers will have to pay for custom and tax right? But you are saving the commission the shop(s) charge on you.

And some shops just charge sky rocket high, just make up some wacky number and say: "oookkk..... that will be.... ya, 300 bucks.."

Nova dust the thing your forgetting is spoon and other places drop the prices for the dudes that import to this country to cover the taxes so that they can make a profit I suspect you'll end up at a price after all costs are paid for that isn't all that better then buying here plus you'll have the headache to deal with

You have a point gatherer.
I didn't even know Spoon sold stuff overseas...

Personally though I don't order stuff off the net unless it Canadian. Duty and shipping is too damn much!
