Yes the American [cough] sucks [cough], cars are improving but they still lack one thing that they in my opinion will never have is RESELL VALUE!!!
Let's face it, when you buy a car unless it is a classic, you are embarking yourself in a losing investment. So I rather put myself in the best financial position, and that is with an import due to it's resell. My car is 2 years older then my girlfriend's (oldsmobile alero) and twice as many clikcs and I can get just as much now or maybe even a little more for my car tehn hers. Imagine in 3 years....
Other then that nothing beats quality, reliabilty and REPUTATION.

The SX 2.0 SRT is pumping 14 lbs. of boost. Isn't that insane? From what I have heard, there is enough problems with head gaskets on 132 hp motors. I wonder how long they will last on these cars? In the end it is still a Chrysler...
Just as an FYI Honda's are not all Engineered in Japan. Honda also has Engineering development facilities in the U.S. where the Pilot, Element, Acura MDX, 3.2 TL and CL were developed. Heck, the Project Leader for the latest (North American) Accord was American (he was sent to Japan).
Now, if we are talking about corporate philosopy's, I would say the "import" companies do have a better culture but the "American's" are catching up.
Would I buy a SX 2.0? No, not even the SRT, it is still a Neon. Would I buy American, sure but it depends on what (of course I have an American car). Do I prefer Honda's? Definitely but a lot can be said about having 300 lbs-ft of torque...
Actually, the Honda/Acura products in my family are made in the U.S. and my "American" car was made in Canada.... Go figure. Okay, the engine in my SiR was made in Japan.

A WRX will still murder a Neon. I've driven 2 WRXs and I swear to you, they accelerate like nothing else. I was in a WRX in a crazy downpour once, and I could still put the hammer down. She got sideways, but if you stay on it, it squares up and before you know it, the boost warning comes on and it's time to shift. (well, this thing was modded, but nonetheless...) Unless they give the Neons away, I don't want one. I'd even take an old Turbo Shadow instead and spend $5K modding that, and it'll run steady 12s in the 1320. BTW, a WRX does a 0-60mph sprint in 5.7 as tested by Car and Driver. Stock figures are conservative.

MOPAR = Moment of power are rare. The Neon has a bad rep. Simple as that. I'd take one for a test drive but I don't think I'd ever buy one.
Only Domestics I'll touch should have a V8. But I do love my stright 6 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I'm with Cantona on this one...
So what if they hold Honda Engineering Quality or North American Engineering Quality, its all made by North American hands.
I've seen rims manufactured in Mexico that had to come to Ronal (before they closed in Ft. Erie) that were supposed to be top "engineering quality" and seen them thrown right into a shredder.
Its all a matter of preference...
I've loved 3 Honda's in my life and they've been great cars, but then again the Jeep I had I've put up rocks and walls that other vehicles wouldn't dream of, and the HUMMV would think twice about. It never had ANY problems in the 1.5 years I owned it and I put it through its paces hardcore! That is North American is it not? ;o)
Its all about preference.
Regards,
OK

Japanese assembly lines and American assembly lines are different.
American ones are systematic in the sense that you have job specialization. You stand in the EXACT same place every day doing the EXACT same job every day.
Japanese assembly lines.. you move around from station to station rotating every day so you become more involved in the creation of the vechicle.. and you edventually get to see the entire car being built slowly! It's job generalization!
2 different mottos.
I rather have my car made by a Japanese assembly line... this way the dude who's installing my door speakers and steering wheel isn't quite falling asleep at the job.

Whoop de do. The SRT may be able to beat a WRX in straight line, but how will it handle compared to the WRX? Remember folks, theres more to driving then going in a straight line.
I'll take the WRX anyday over a Neon, that way I can drive like a madman anywhere and anytime of the year.
Just my 2 cents though...
