how much do you think a 1993 completely JDM 180sx is worth. it's bonestock, but it comes with the SR20DET 205hp, 202ft*lbf turbo engine. it's got 94,6xx km on it and it looks amazing, no rust what so ever. only drawback is that it needs buffing on the front bumper and pretty much new paint on the bumper. some dents on the ceiling as well. prolly from shipping. the guy says i can repair them myslef if i take the lining out and all that. of course it;s RHD too. dunno how that goes with the safety cert. but the guy says it's no problems. he bought it 2 weeks ago for 5,500 from a dealer that imported it and he pretty much wants his money back cuz insurance kills him for having a bad record (510$).

thanx and hopefully somebody reads this. sorry for the long msg,

check with your insurance first, and make sure you're confortable with a RHD car. I was considering buying on for 3 weeks and after 3 test rides I wasn't confortable in it. Left hand turns become next to impossible

My friend also has a 2001 jetta with 80 km and he already as electrical problems.

I think 7 out 10 jetta have electrical problems so good luck finding one that does one have electrical problems

The japanese can do RHD because they drive on the opposite side of the road.

In canada, it'll be hard.

You know sometimes you sit at a major intersection? and you can barely see because an 18 wheeler or a bus is there. well, with RHD, even a passenger car can make it very hard to see, and forget about trying to see if a truck/bus is there.

also, if you've been driving for a long time and used to LHD, when you're not fully concentrating, you might just drive in the middle of 2 lanes because you're used to where the lines are relative to where you are if you were driving on the left side. old habits die hard as they say.

At one point, i was tempted to buy a R32 Skyline. after some thinking, I really don't think it would be a good idea. the hassel of getting used to RHD, shifting with the other hand (i refuse to own an ATX car), and safety issues makes it simply not worth it.

RWD is nice too, for drifting, accelerating, and cornering. sucks for winter and heavy rain though.

I guess if you get used to it and can deal with it, it's not bad.

as for parts, I'm not sure how available they are, or how much they would cost.

as for performance, SR20DET engines are great platforms for modding. Cost is a whole other issue, which i know nothing about.

Speaking of good platforms for modding, do you plan to mod the car? what HP rating would you have in mind as a goal? what's your projected budget for modding?

i wouldn't do much modding this year..not until i finish university and get a real job(still got 4th yr)...so for now i wouldn't do much. definitely some audio and rims. plus i would be getting to greedy...im already jumping from 110 hp to 200 so i say it's better to learn how to handle that and get comofrtable, maybe tired of it...if push comes to shove and i get it.

plus there is much to learn about that pleatform and the car itself, aftermarket and different routes i could take. i believe there is some support because of all the 240sx roaming around, which are almost identical, aside from the engine. prices aren't that high..a cluster is 80$ compared to 250 for a damn type r one. so sounds promising.

noone posted anything about the price?! i guess it's a good price, the only thing that breaks my heart is that it doesn't come with a nice sound system...i wonder how much that would run me..

$5500 is a decent price for that car. since, if I'm not mistaken, RHD cars generally sell for less in North American markets.

make sure it's mechanically sound, and insurance isn't gonna kill you.

like i've mentioned before (and someone else in a previous post), the DSM's (talon, eclipse, laser) are also another inexpensive and great platform to work on. about 200HP and 210 torque to start for the turbo models. you also get AWD on some models. price is also in your range.

shop around

If there's a market for 2girls1cup then there certainly is a market for selling your RHD import.

Razvane,

Personally I would not get a RHD car here. As a matter of fact, if I were in your position, I wouldn't get a car at all. You said you are not 25 yet, have had a minor ticket, didn't pass your G test, and are still in university.

Why don't you keep the Civic that you currently have, especially if it's running well, and get something better in one year when you finish university? By then, you will pass your G, finish school, and have more money to get into something newer and maybe with more power.

Anyway, that's my $0.02.

5500 is a fair price, i dont think itd be that hard to get used to seeing as our brothers in the west (BC,Alberta) have tons of RHD there, and since the 180sx is stock sr20det, the parts should be next to nothing cuz im pretty sure those 240 guys swap in sr20s all the time

I also agree. If the Civic still runs good, then why not keep it. If your still in school and may have problems with tickets and insurance, buying a different car might be more then its worth.

That RHD jdm car might seem like a cool car, but what about maintenance and insurance on it? It could cost alot more then the Civic.

Keep the Civic and fix it up a bit. Wait till you're doen school and have your full g licence, then look at a better nicer car.

Anyway, that's my $0.02.

you guys sound like twin brothers. i would maybe lose around 2k on the switch in total...thats if you can still sell a clean civic lx for 4+k...prolly not? how much do you think my car is worth?

97 civic lx,
112k miles, 5sp, pw, pl, ps, tint, cruise, a/c needs freon,
engine stock, aem intake, some decent sounding exhaust,
vinyl(leather like) interior, clean, decent sound system (10"+amp), sunroof, spoiler, lips,
rims and wheelies, 90% tires, all seasons on 17" + winters on steelies,
short shifter, compustar 2way(costed the guy that had it before me 8 bills).
rust and bubbles begining on 1/4's and one door that has a lot of bubbles and pw and pl dont work(thinking of just replacing that), maintained good.

im not tryin to sell it to you guys, unless u feel the need to have it. i just want an honest quote. thank you very much for your time.

We sound like twins because we are older and wiser then you. We also had bascially the same car as you. I had a 98 Si and 07Ex had a Hatch. I don't know about him, but somedays I wish I still had that old car. It was great. My new Si hauls ***, bit the old car was so cheap to operate and maintain.

If you car was in mint condition with low k's, I'd say $5000 TOPS. They way it is now, $3500 tops. Remember too that the mods the car does have won't increase its value.

Funny thing is that I too wish sometimes I had the old EK hatch. Even though the car was not as comfortable as the new one and didn't have the options the new one has, it was fun to drive, extremely cheap on gas, and, like Mike said, inexpensive to maintain.

As for how much you can get for your car, I guess it depends on who is willing to buy it. I sold mine last year for $6K. It was a '97 hatch, 5 speed, with 173K on it. The body, interior, and motor were in mint condition; after all I was part of the TCC Show Team.

Still, I consider myself lucky b/c the guy who bought the car from me was a young guy who absolutely loved my car and was willing to pay that kind of money for a modded car. If it were someone else, I probably would've gotten 4K, because the car was had a manual transmission, 2 doors, and vas very small.

In your case, if you can find someone from the import scene who is willing to pay $5K for it, you too should consider yourself lucky. Otherwise, the car is probably worth $3.5 - S4K.
