Arrow "next car" question again

sup guys,

lotsa knowledgeable ppl here...hence i would like your opinion about buying my next used car.

i currently own a 97 lx. looks decent, paint is not great but runs great, reliable, exhaust mods, ok sound system, short ram, rims, spoiler, stuff like that. bought it last year for 5k...thought it was a good deal last year but im pretty sure i shouldn't have rushed into it like that. i was thinkin of maybe doing the mini me, cleaning it up a lil bit changing a door cuz it has rust on it, fixing it up so that maybe someone will buy it and get some money back.

about the new car...it doesn't have to be a honda, unless maybe smth with a swapped engine, upgraded performance, so i don't have to spend so much on it for extra power. i want smth more powerful(more towards 200hp), 4 banger or maybe a decent 6 cyl, smth good and still cool(dont even think about camrys or anything like that) but not too bad on gas, decent lookn, with potential. i was just lookin at some 240sx's, stuff like that. i wouldn't mind smth that's not very common, some hidden gem of the tuner world (wow that sounded gay)... i dont even know where to start. oh btw i want smth in the range 5-7k, import, similar on insurance. insurance status paying 180/mth incl life ins at state farm. i am really open to suggestions(any crazy ideas will do). thx for takin the time...

If you are thinking a 240SX, good luck. The only way you will find them with over 200+ HP is that they have had the engine swaped into it, most likey a SR20DET, suspension, exhaust, rims & tires ect. Plus when the guys do that work to the car, they beat on the car, so you know your buying a car that bin raped alot, lol. Plus with 240SX you need to watch out for the rusted out frames, rear wheel well, floor, and at the bottom of the trunk where the 1/4 panel and inside the trunk meet. O yea, they like to go through fuel sending unit's. If you get one stock you will only be looking at 145 HP on the SOHC and 160 HP on the DOHC.

thx spike. good advice. i found some stock ones on autotrader for under 5000 and the souped up ones go for 8-10k which is above what i wanna spend on it. i'd like smth stock but then how much money would i have to put in it to make it decent...thats the question.
An old prelude is still tough on insurance, generally i find that they aren't worth it. but i will take one for a test drive anyway cuz i can't say much about it if i haven't tried it.

celica gts, gti..ok fair enough. any other suggestions? cmon guys, go crazy.let's put it this way. give me something that's better than spending money on a b18 swap.

does year matter to you?

because you can probably get an old prelude , celica , mx6 , mustang or maybe an old bmw for that price range. However if you want something newer (2000 and up) with 200 hp and up it is going to be really hard to find and if you actually find it , it would most likely be a car that took a lot of abuse

year doesn't really matter. especially since i've given up on having a car newer than 2000 until i turn 25 because of insurance.

finding a 200hp car on a 5-7k budget will be a challenge. compact 4cyl cars haven't even reached 200hp stock up till now...

turbo?

an old mustang maybe??? but dont ask about gas consumption.

tonite i researched a lot about nissans 180sx, 200sx, 300zx, 240sx...prices vary a lot. does kelly blue book always rate prices very low or what? and the canadian black book...has any of you been able to see that? there is nothing to click on when you go to their website.

it seems to be pretty expensive...but who knows. and the talons on kijiji look beat up...

what's the best way to look for used cars? any other ideas beside autotrader, kijiji, craigslist. any issues you've found with these? appreciate the help...

oh and those nissans are rwd....

ok i found smth that tickles my brain but i wanna be more cautious about this then back when i bought my current civic.

how much do you think a 1993 completely JDM 180sx is worth. it's bonestock, but it comes with the SR20DET 205hp, 202ft*lbf turbo engine. it's got 94,6xx km on it and it looks amazing, no rust what so ever. only drawback is that it needs buffing on the front bumper and pretty much new paint on the bumper. some dents on the ceiling as well. prolly from shipping. the guy says i can repair them myslef if i take the lining out and all that. of course it;s RHD too. dunno how that goes with the safety cert. but the guy says it's no problems. he bought it 2 weeks ago for 5,500 from a dealer that imported it and he pretty much wants his money back cuz insurance kills him for having a bad record (510$).

thanx and hopefully somebody reads this. sorry for the long msg,
