i don't think that the the govt would pass the law of making all modifications illegal cause there's way too many cars in toronto alone that are modified plus if they do pass the law then they have to shut down every performance shop in this province and anyone whose involved in manufacturing/distribution of all modification parts and that would cause a lot of kaos and a lot of unemployed people. The people in our govt should realized that this sport is the source of income and living for some people and they should focus their time in something useful like our hydro situation which they already screwed up, health care etc...... and they shouldn't raise our taxes cause were already paying too much

This law is no joke, and if you don't start acting now it will pass. Seeing all of the modified cars on the street will not help if the government does not hear from them as a an intelligent, cohesive group. Until we are heard, we are nothing better than the street racers to them, and the public at large. Public opinion is not in our favour, and the government is looking to end what is perceived as impotence in their ability to stop street racing from showing up on the 6:00 news. We all know that the banning of performance parts will not stop the races, and will not stop the traffic light deaths caused by idiots, but they are looking for their scapegoat. Don't let that scape goat be you and your car. You have too much time, passion and money into it to let this slide.

Several Ontario Supra owners are right now working to contact the decision makers, and a petition is about to go up. The Ontario government is likely going to elections in the spring, and this is just the kind of feel good safety law that they would love to pass right before going to the polls. If you like your hobby, and believe in your right to safely and responsibly modify cars, then as responsible, law abiding citizens you must join the fight to defeat section 172.2 of the Road Safety Act. This is your only chance to make a difference. Miss this, and it's back to stock, or multi thousands of dollars in fines, seizures of parts and hassles.

Please follow this link to the Supraforums discussion on the topic and make your voices heard. Only as a group do we stand a chance.

Supraforums Bill 241 Discussion

Thanks you for your attention, and sound the alarm as far and wide as you can. Moderators, putting this up as a sticky would help more people see the issue, and generate more support for us as a group.

I sent an e-mail to my local representative. I suggest everyone does the same specifically pointing out that it costs a lot to modify a car, hence, keeps teenagers off booze and drugs, and when your car is done up you are less likely to wreck it by drinking and driving, and it's also good for the local economy and name a few local shops in the area of your rep's district. It should get them off their bums and out looking into the matter hopefully (or they'll send some eager intern to do it for them), either way, hopefully if we all voice our concern, we'll be heard. It may also be good to get SEMA on our side...they have fought many of these things out with CARB and other gov't authorities in the states.

There is now an online peitition stup up for this. If you find that writing to your representative is something you do not have time for, but still want to help, please sign on and show your support. Please ask everyone you know to look at it, and if they can to take the time to follow the supraforums link above and become part of the fight.

If you have contacts at parts suppliers and shops, please get them on board with the risks to their business and their futures due to this legislation. Ask them to write to their MPP and voice their very real economic concerns, and help facilitate change. Even your favourite Honda dealer who sells any performance parts at their parts counter will lose through this. They may be able to convince Honda to help, as we are working with Toyota to do to save their fledgling TRD dealers.

Online Petition to the Government

Just want to add something. A lot of the people blame the cops... Guys, the cops don't make the laws, they enforce it, lay off them.

The laws are pretty fair IMO. It's cops that twist it and use them to harass us that **** me off. Like who gets pulled over for having a car that's too low? Or too loud? Or having a plate off center? Or violent acceleration/exhibition of speed? or tint too dark? Whose judgement call is all this....the cops!!! I've never been helped by cops (well OPP once when I was in the ditch), but harassed frequently by local police.

Well I never heard of anyone getting pulled over for having there car too low. Now if you're playing music so loud while you're driving that is a safety hazard, think about it. Plate off center, again never heard of anyone being pulled over. Violent acceleration again, safety hazard. Tint too dark.. Safety issue...
Btw, I'm no cop lover.

If any part of the car sits lower than the lip of the rim closest to the ground you would be considered legally "too low". Please note that a stock Civic fails these requirements too, so the law is obviously out-dated.

I was talking about loud exhausts or intakes...not stereo...

Violent acceleration...all that means you're hella quick, but you're not speeding....or you are doing a burnout. I wasn't doing a burnout...I was launching all 107 of my horsies How is it a safety hazard to be quick off the line.

If I can see...who gives a ****...they were more concerned about being able to see me...which makes me wonder WTF they wanna see me for.

Look, what I'm saying...we've all been busted for something, right? But out of everyone who has had their **** stolen or house broken into, or car broken into, or whatever....what percentage of these "crimes" have you heard of being solved? Just ask 1sLOCiviC....I've had death threats...in writing, that they told me they couldn't do anything about. So I ask you...when I wanna carry my own form of protection, like a AK47 how can they stop me, when they were not willing to do anything about protecting me to begin with?

I'm not tellin you this personally, it's just a general rant.... it's all cool, right? :
