new honda owner, questions, and should i join the club?
Greetings.
I'm 26, from Mississauga, and just bought my first car, a 2001 honda civic LX sedan (from Ready Honda). I'm probably paying too much for it.
Since I have never owned a car before(not for lack of wanting one), I don't really know about a lot of basic stuff.. I can read the manual for the maintenance schedule stuff, but there is probably other stuff I should know. Besides these forums, where else can I go to get info? The more beginner-oriented, the better for me For example, do i HAVE to use genuine honda antifreeze and windsheild wiper fluid and oil, or are other kinds okay?
Should I join the club and pay dues? My car is just stock, and automatic for another thing (I wanted manual for the driving fun, but had to opt for auto so the gf can learn on it, plus i really wasn't sure about how i was going to use it). I'm sure all of you with your very sweet rides probably look down on a stock machine, and auto to boot I do have plans to do stuff to my car, just little stuff. Maybe replace the brake/turn signal bulbs with LED ones that are brighter, put a better stereo in it, a computer with a little screen up front. There is probably not much point trying to soup up the engine of a car with an automatic transmission, anyways.. right?
If anyone read all that, thank you :P Any responses are appreciated!

First off good choice on the buy, cant go wrong with a civic. Personally i buy oem stuff when it comes to the big stuff such as wheel bearings/hubs, brakes, and mechanical parts. As for oil and washer fluid and stuff like that i got with decent stuff from canadian tire or napa. Enjoy the ride

There are plenty of stock cars in the club. We don't discriminate towards non-modified vehicles. TCC is a great community to join. Come out to one of our meets on Wednesday night and get to know some good people. You can then make up your mind yourself.

My Car = Stock + Auto...lol and i'm also a member
I've been on this site since i was 16. . i'm now 20, recently became a paid member last year and really have had no complaints.
Whenever i have a problem with my car, i post it up on here and i get a quicktime response. Do searches and you'll find ansewers to pretty much any question you may have. . . read the stickies and stuff....and you should be just fine
Also a lot of great ppl to just shoot the crapola with.

Welcome. I think joining the club is worth it just to be able to get Honda parts from Parkway Honda at a cost below retail. For major mechanical parts, I would buy Honda parts. Personally I use Honda fluids, filters, etc. but C-T or name brand stuff will suit your needs.
Search the board and read info from other Honda related sites to learn more about your car. www.7thgencivic.com can be very useful just because it deals directly with the newer model Civic like yours.

Welcome to TCC
Nice purchase, no worries I drive a pretty much stock automatic too.
As for joining the club, check the site out...come to a meet and then decide. You have time, we aren't going anywhere. Everyone has their preference when it comes to parts, as for washer fluid I buy whatever is on sale. Oil I run Motul only.

Sup buddy. Just browse the forum and search keywords on the topics that interest you the most. When the weather permits, feel free to come out and attend the meets. If Scarborough is too far for you, wait for a west end Mississauga meet. Get to know a few faces, then decide if you want to pay the dues or not.
Enjoy your stay.
