If it is a 99si it is vtec
if it is a 99 dx then it is not vtec

99 si = 127 horse 106 torque
99 dx = 107 horse 103 torque

Welcome to TCC!!!

If your car has Si on it and no V-tec on the on the motor there is only one way to determine if it is V-tec.

Drive the car hard buy shifting more then 5500rpm. Should feel the V-tec kick in past 5500rpm. Not only will you feel the kick but also you can hear the V-tec. The motor gets louder and sounds sweet.

Try it!!!

"Si" is a vtec motor D16Y8

1/4 mile for coupe, stock trim, full interior........w/ a good driver.... prolly breaking mid 16's?? (I think....dunno about auto tho)

LOL Not to punk the D16Y8 cuz i have one......BUT I think V-tec in a SOHC is a piece of ****....lol And on your way up to 5500 rpm make sure you put a substantial load on the car, else V-Tec won't even kick in.

You should still be able to feel and hear the v-tec.

Like sugarcane said Si is a V-tec.

yes I think from the VIN it could be determined ... best bet is to ask honda ... also with VTEC and automatics the tranny ussually shifts before you hit VTEC

Si is SOHC vtec.. should be stamped d16y8 just to the left on the exhaust manifold.. just look, you'll eventually find it.. as for quarter mile times you are probably lookin low 17's to low 18's as its an auto.. sorry to burst your bubble but thats just what they are capable of in the quarter mile. You're biggest draw back is the tranny.. but oh well, if she is happy with it thats what counts.
Just make a big fuss over it, no one wants to hear negative comments about their new car..

enjoy

Does it have a sunroof? Power windows and mirrors? If so, it is an Si and it has VTEC. To be honest though, the automatic without VTEC feels faster in normal driving. I have driven a 1998 1.6 EL Auto and 2000 Civic Sedan Auto. I couldn't feel much of a difference in normal driving. The only time VTEC kicked in was when I floored the throttle. Otherwise, I thought it wasn't worth it. The 5 - Speed? Now that is a different story, night and day difference. (yes, I have driven both as well in 5 - speeds).

If you post the VIN, it can be confirmed if it is VTEC or not. Actually a few digits is enough Out of 1HG EJ8.... XL80.... Just the middle portion (EJ8....) is enough. If it is posted, I can help out.

Mark
